Never spend new money for an old camera, such as an August 2019 release. You can find many used at a discount vs the new camera price.

Or, see what the world is really telling you with this sign: go mirrorless.

Are you employed by Canon??

As an aside, there is currently a world wide shortage of digital chips causing interuptions/delays in the manufacture of many products. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the problem.

I dropped my well used Canon 90D, and was seeking a new one from B&H. Just received notice from that the 90D has been discontinued. What a shame. It was, in my humble opinion an excellent camera, and Worked well with my collection of EF and EFS lenses from Canon and Tamron. Sad day.

I buy much of my lenses used through dealers like B&H, KEH, MBP. I know that Adorama also sells used equipment. I can normally save 25-33% less than new. I purchased a slightly used Canon EOS R for 1200.00 about 2 years ago and have has no problems. I still buy some equipment new, but photographers are terrible about needing the newest version or thing. This allows for very good equipment on the used market. Try and find a used 90D from a reputable dealer and you will be fine.

Don't buy the all as I plan on buying a 90D late this summer to upgrade my older Rebel T1i and 50D. Yes I have old cameras and lenses but I also drive an old car, had an old wife and I was and am happy with them all. I don't need the newest and the most modern just to have fun. I even have and use a 100mm Portragon that could be older than many of you but it looks strange and works well and is fun if you know how to use it. Yes, my cell hone is also used. My bottom line is having fun and making me happy is important and not having the best and the most.

I have already placed and paid for a 90D. B&H assured me more were on the way and since they took my payment I hope the are right.

If, like me you've invested heavily in several DSLR"S and L lenses, going mirrorless in my opinion is stupid advice.

I don't make a living with my cameras so it really doesn't matter how modern my equipment is. I used to have boxes full of pictures that somehow disappeared over time. I started out with a rangefinder camera and graduated to an SLR with screw mount lenses. I still have them but when I moved on to my T1i I couldn't find adapters to work with them except for my Portragon. I have an eclectic range of lenses that would probably have most people scratching their heads but that's me. I have been told I am a pretty good photographer but most of them wanted me to take pictures for them for free. When my wife was alive she loved my pictures and that is all that mattered with me. If a thousand professional photographers told me a picture was trash and my wife liked it that is all that would have mattered. I just got my 50D this spring, used from B & H because my T1i is having SD card problems. I also got two "New" lenses at the same time.

I'm not sure I'd call it discontinued. They just aren't replacing it with a new model (such as a 95D). They are sort of replacing it with a mirrorless camera. If you want another 90D, they are still available.

I was saddened to find that Nikon would no longer count my D7200 on the list of accepted cameras for NPS because they had retired it. The D7200 is still one of the best & most widely used DSLRs, yet sadly, Nikon no longer supports it. So, some DSLRs it seems, no matter how popular they may still be, have reached retirement age.

I am not sure why it is stupid to go mirrorless. You do not need RF lenses to be fully immersed in the mirrorless world. I only have 1 RF mount lens. All of my EF lenses work with the EF-RF adapter. Most work better because of the new sensors and software for the EOS R series cameras. IMO, Canon over engineers the adapter making it so good that it was hurting RF mount lenses. Now they are discontinuing many EF lenses which means Canon is all in for Mirrorless. There will be no new DSLR's for Canon thus it will be difficult in a year or so to find new lenses.

I took the plunge to mirrorless and haven't looked back.

Sometimes all that matters is that the person closest to you likes your pictures. Sounds like you had a wonderful relationship!

I know that mirrorless is the future but I don't really see the big advantage. Lighter & smaller is not a big incentive to go mirrorless. When shooting sporting events, in burst mode, I often produce 2,500 - 3,000 images during a softball, baseball or volleyball game. I have never needed more than 2 batteries and usually only use 1 per session. With a mirrorless, I would need 5-10 batteries. I hope that this rumor is not true because I was thinking of buying a Canon 90D because it's about $1,000 less than the Canon D5 Mark IV. I think that camera manufacturers are promoting mirrorless because they are more profitable, not better than DSLR. Your thoughts are welcomed.

Its like GMC telling its customers, "we're no longer going to make any gas or deisel autos in six months. However, well gladly sell you this smaller electric vehicle. It will only go 200 miles, or 1/3rd less per charge. And cost more to initially purchase, but, dear customer, that's life. Take it or leave it."

Third-party lens makers like Sigma may continue to produce lenses for the DSLR crowd.

After all, DSLR cameras still remain capable of the highest quality photographs.

For this reason, I'm supposing DSLR cameras and their lenses will remain in circulation for quite a while.

Time to go mirrorless!

Well maybe when my 5Dc gives up the ghost but so far it does everything I've asked of it. I don't
print much and when I do, it's 8x10 or thereabouts so 12mp is enough. Maybe somebody will tell us why mirrorless is so wonderful. How much better will my pics be? 100%? Or is there some other advantage that I don't know about, like saving time and work or $$ by not having to develop film? When I was shooting Tri-X, my home had really bad water so I had to take my film to a shop to get it developed. OTOH, my digital darkroom worked just fine under those conditions. Will mirrorless give me a similar jump or will it just murder my occasional GAS attack? You know, the always lurking desire to spend. Thanks, Harry
