Well it took me all week, several hundred exposures, and the help of a couple of enthusiasts who were kind enough to offer advice and encouragement but I finally got to the point that I was able to adjust my flash setup to stop the wings. Unfortunately I use two cards in my camera, one to record raw and one to record low resolution JPEGs and of course I only had the low res card in the camera when I took this shot.

The joy of photography, IMHO, is as much about the journey to a better image as it is the image itself. Your work is certainly progressing, and I can tell you enjoy the ride as well! Keep clicking, mate!

It is a great shot. I'm still waiting for the hummers to show up here. Some have said they've had a couple at their feeders, but I think they missed our little valley in their migration this year.

You need to get the feeders out so that don't pass you by... When they find a feeder they will stick with it. Mine have been out for about 2 1/2 weeks now, I had a new one hanging waiting for their return and even though it was empty I saw a bird stop to feed from it. Needless to say that I immediately filled it with nectar. Now I have several feeding and I suspect as the spring moves forward I will have more, especially as a greater variety of flowers bloom. While typing this a hummer just had its beak stuck in the window screen, hope no damage was done as it extricated itself from the screen, have never seen that happen before. Have fun.

We’ve had them out for 3 weeks and I refresh the nectar every two days. We’re usually teeming with them, but hardly any reports from our villagers. Bluebirds, on the other hand, are visiting daily and we have some hatching nearby. I have azaleas and knock out roses in bloom.

Excellent. That's what hummingbird images should look like.

Funny thing is, that I mounted an old FL 55mm f/1.2 and went out to shoot some flowers to see if I could not get some of those outrageous backgrounds that some of those old lenses produce, the light was not right and the results on the flowers were mediocre at best, but as I sat down on the back porch to review my shots along came a hummer and what the heck just of grins I took a couple of shots, no flash no anything just wide open at 1.2 and a 1/5000 shutter speed. Topaz has put some artifacts in the bottom of the image but are you kidding me?

Damn! Doesn't look low res to me! Great and difficult shot!
