The Armored Catfish is an invasive species in Florida and a growing threat to our Manatee population. This Black Crowned Night Heron is doing it's part to help out. I am sure the catfish does not meet eye to eye with the Night Heron on this matter however. Wakodahatchee Wetlands.

Great capture by both of you, Bill. Is that thing even edible for the heron?

They usually play with it until they know it's dead dead. Those spikes could prove fatal if he moves around after being swallowed.

The fish does have spikes, the Heron's usually make sure the fish is dead dead before swallowing. Those spikes could prove fatal if the fish moves around much.

Great capture. Speaking of invasive species I enjoy watching the TV program, Swamp People:Serpent Invasion where they are removing Burmese Pythons from the Florida Everglades. Our fish invasive species is the Asian Carp which will jump out of the water at the smallest disturbance at times hitting boaters.

Great shot, Bill! We sure have an abundance of invasive species. Especially the southern states with the pythons and lizards.
