I carry a small Swiss Army knife with my keys. The toothpick lasts till you lose it.

I have always wondered how toothpicks are made. Do they use a tiny little table saw, or maybe an equally small turning lathe?

I always thought that would make a great segment on "How it's made" Discovery channel

BTW Jerry, Bamboo is technically NOT wood, it's considered a grass.

There has been a "How It's Made" segment on making wooden toothpicks around for quite some time.

Jerry, I'm just wondering.........

If you discovered that the toothpicks were defective and got one stuck in your teeth.
Why in the world would you use another of the same to try and fix it?

Because I had just put my chisel back in the garage, and that was all I had available. The pointy-nose pliers didn't help at all.

If I'm very careful, they don't break, but that's the exception. I'm getting more wooden ones in a couple of days. Then the bamboo will be relegated to projects.

I've always like toothpicks, not just for my teeth but also for things around the house. I bought a box of 1,000 bamboo toothpicks from Amazon a while ago, and they're awful. The problem is that they break very easily - way too easily. I've gotten pieces stuck in my teeth, and I had to use another one to pry them out.

The next time I order toothpicks, I'll get real wood.

Yes, I searched and searched and finally found some hardwood toothpicks like the ones my Dad used to chew on all day!

About losing a pocket knife I often wonder why they do some in camouflage.

There is the rather marvelous series: How It's Made. Always a good way to waste some time. Anyway, this is how toothpicks are made:

I'm very partial to the little plastic ones that come with my little Swiss Army knife. The only problem is that I frequently lose the knife or the tooth pick and have to reorder thru Amazon.

Darn... You are right!
I just checked my Swiss Army Knife that I bought last year when I was there in Lucerne and there it was.---

Thanks.

That was a very popular show, and the narrator was also very popular. I've seen that video about making toothpicks. Amazing! I used to think they would use wood scraps, but of course that wouldn't work. It seems like a waste of good trees, though. I wouldn't mind seeing them go the way of straws.

For the same reason they make garden tools with green handles.
When you drop them in the grass you'll never see them again (until your lawnmower finds it).

Then you will buy another.

Toothpicks are great until you accidentally swallow one. They are hard to retrieve in your digestive tract as they do not show up on x-rays. Good chance of them poking holes in your intestines setting up a real good chance of deadly infection. Beware.

Who needs a toothpick, just take your teeth out and place'em in a jar....
