D600 replacement suggestions

I’m looking to replace my Nikon D600 which is beyond repair. I’ve been happy with the D600 overall, which I use for landscape shots. I often shoot at the beach in low light, with long exposures and occasional HDR’s. I print the shots quite large to 48 x 32 inches, and I'm pleased with the resolution. In addition to the 24-85 kit lens, I use the 18-35 3.5-4.5 G and an older 80-300 from my film days. I shoot RAW 99% of the time and spend a lot of time with LR.

I see my options as: a new D750 or D780, or a used D800 or D810. Adorama somehow has a Nikon refurbished D610 for $799.00, which is $200.00 lower than nikonusa.com. How do they do that? The other option is I take the plunge to the D850, knowing that a new version may be out in a year or so. I'm hesitant to go mirrorless as I do have F-mount lenses that I'm happy with.

I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions.
Thanks.

The falling prices on the D750 represent the best bang per buck, and all imaging improvements beyond the 750 are just incremental. OTOH, there are tempting operational features in the 780 and 850 where the budget allows. Acoarst if the budget is real tight, there seems to be plentiful clean used 610s.

If the D600 is doing well for you then the D750 would be a large step up and much newer technology.
The D810 would be excellent as well.
Both these cameras would be excellent for your photography.

If you found 24MP well-matched to your lenses and computer processing, the D780 would be the logical change, where you could save money with an older D750, especially if finding a used body.

I totally agree. I just purchased the D780 a few months back and am totally happy with it. The D750 would save you a lot of money but purchasing a lesser feature model can make you regret it later possibly. I could have gone for the D850 but I did not like the size and 24MP totally meets my needs. It is a major decision and I wish you bet best in this evaluation process.

Which features is the D750 lacking that the D780 has? I have tried to compare them and can’t find much difference. Thanks

More important, what features are useful in your photographic work. My D750, and D810 were gotten used and are excellent. For the things I do the enhancements on their successors offer no value. I pulled up comparisons online and checked off things that were important. The older models won - as did my D7200 vs. D7500, and in my case, even the D500, though it is purportedly excellent. It is about you and your usage, and budget - IMHO, nothing more.

As somebody who went on a similar upgrade path, if you can afford it, jump directly to the D850. The D800/810 has a CF memory card slot, and if you've ever bent one of the pins in the socket, you do not want to go through that again.

I have only seen once, a D600. It was replaced by the D610. The D600 had a problem The D610 is also discontinued. I would suggest a D750. I met two photographers at photography events who had nothing but praise for that camera. It's successor, the D780, which has some extra bells and whistles, is more expensive. But, has the same 24megapixels sensor, as the D750. You can buy a refurbished D750 at a very good price today.

If budget allows & you do not do video or want to eventually buy new mirrorless lens, get the D850.

If you want the same resolution characteristics with reasonable price, light-weight, built-in flash, and articulating screen, only the D750 fits your requirements. The D810 has the advantage of finer detail in the enlargements, due to more pixels and no optical low-pass filter, but it doesn't have an articulating screen. The D850 has even more resolution, but not the built-in flash. Since you do such large blow-ups, I think you would be astounded at how much improvement you would see if you found a way to get the D850.

I was in a similar situation earlier this year, Leo, when my workhorse D600 unexpectedly died. I quickly bought an used D750 to keep my real estate photography business going. I also love landscape photography, though that doesn't generate much income. I have never looked back from my decision to move to the D750. In fact I now have two bodies; one is dedicated to real estate photography while the other serves as a hot backup, plus my go to camera for landscape shooting.

Good luck and good shooting with whatever body you decide to move to.

Best Regards,

I have experience with the D750 and the D610. I have used the D750 and I own a D610. I have been very pleased with the D610 and I know I do not need a newer or better camera.
Since your D600 is beyond repair a logical step is buying a D610 which is the same camera. Buying any other model I would say that it entirely depends on the features that you need in your photography. From the description in your post you were pleased as I said with the D600 so expect the same results with the D610. If your budget is kind of short there has to be excellent buys in the second hand market.

The lenses you have have proven to be all you need for your photography and by the way, I am sure that you are talking about the old 70-300 and not the 80-300 as you mention in your post. The VR version is most probably shaper and VR comes very handy when you cannot use the tripod. Hope this helps with your decision.
