If it is an old strap, don't trust it. If it is a stout new one, I can't imagine a problem.

What exactly is a leather tather strap?? I have leather camera and lens case straps 60 or more years old and, while they may look the worse for wear, they’re nowheres near worn out.

I searched and found a company called Tether Straps which sells leather camera straps. I have no information on the quality of their straps. Here is a link.

Based on my experience with two-layer leather belts, I would pass on these straps.

Leather is about the best camera strap material. Period.

Agree with this! Of course it should be real one piece leather. Check out Holdfast for top end straps.

I have the moneymaker in a 3 camera configuration and it holds the weight very well.

I once had a leather strap fail and drop a camera. If you keep an eye on it you should be okay but old ones can fail.

I love leather and have boot straps, belts and other things in leather that appear to be very strong but I would not use a leather camera strap because there are too many things that I can trust and I just don't trust leather long term.

There is as much variation in leather as there is in synthetic materials so it is impossible to know without more specific information. In general I would put my faith in a nylon strap, all things considered. Leather tends to dry out and become weak or brittle.
