I regularly enjoy looking at the pics uploaded to this section and I see many excellent photos. That said, there are also many images that are simply mediocre (and some are really quite poor). As I read the comments, I too often see pages of “wonderful set”, “great series” and “love them”. Now I fully understand that photography, like the other arts, is quite subjective, but it seems to me that folks who post here would be better served by honest and constructive critiques. I often wonder what the benefit of 3 pages of “rave” reviews on an ordinary or worse photo is. Again, subjectivity aside, there are too many examples of pages of polite ego stroking when clear, concise technical suggestions might be far more useful to a poster.
Were I to upload a favorite pic of mine, I would certainly love to hear oohs and aahs, but if a fellow photographer sees something that might improve the image or my technique, I would be equally delighted to hear about it. POLITELY of course.
Not trying to troll up snark - just mentioning my thoughts and wondering if I am missing something.

You are probably looking for Photo Analysis.
I only reply when I think I have something constructive to say about something I may be interested in. Then, I will not lie or flatter.
It is nice to have comments at all.
Look at "all sections" at the bottom of this page. Plenty of areas on UHH to offer critique.
Photo Gallery guidelines are here:
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-426-1.htmlOften people do ask for feedback in their opening post. Many are here simply to share. Since you haven't posted any photos on UHH or given us a link to your website, can you provide your qualifications, please?

Understood, but many simply flatter.
Those who reply positively may really like the photos
Use one of the feedback sections. Or, state clearly you're looking for feedback in the Photo Gallery. You control how / where you post.

I tried to sidestep the snarky replies. Explain to me what my lack of image posting or my “qualifications” have to do with my original question.
Heaven is in the human breast.

Ditto. Pun and irony intended.
There's a picture. There's 3 text comments, and a dozen or so "#metoo"s, or just emojis
I don't really feel the need to join in on that.
a lot of the posters will explain their point of view. The frequent ones are similar.
They post, they share. Like it- good, don't like it- too bad. Constructive comments are appreciated.

I find it more valuable to receive feedback from someone whose work I admire and can relate to.
One example: there is a UHH member who does fantastic work technically, but many of his/her photos I find rather boring because I am more interested in
light and shadows and unique pov's than shooting in mid-day, or pixel peeping at 100%
When he is asked to critique, Gene51 says he always asks about the photographer's
intent. If I like strong colors and soft focus and you don't, how can you help me? If I prefer environmental portraits of birds and wildlife, but you do only close-ups and severe cropping, how can you help me?
There are a couple of sections here that specifically cater to critique. I have also noted, as you stated, the number of "wonderful" posts/sets/collections. The issues I've seen in critiques are at times the "I'd have shot it this way" approach. That falls short of a critique. Although the people managing those sections try to provide guidance, it's oft times not followed.
I'm not one to just post Nice unless the photos are, at least, nicely done. I find, at times, it's more fruitful to inquire about the motivation for taking the photo, the concept being presented, etc.

You have to understand the source by getting to know the poster through their own work, other comments, and their general demeanor and philosophy.
