I like #2 and #5 One butterfly is too damaged and last one too washed out. Otherwise nice captures.

Keep up the good work.

If you use Photoshop CC 2020 use the crop tool and extend the top beyond the picture and be sure to have content aware checked, the program will fill in and you will have more space.

Fantastic shots all. Would you like to share your technique for capturing these elusive creatures in flight?

I have been trying for a long time to capture butterflies in flight and so far nothing but frustration.

Vic, for me the entire set is great. There are a couple (numers 2, 5 and 6) since they are in flight which is real hard for me to capture.

One great thing about capturing these with a long lens is the the entire image is sharply focused (not macro sharp), and the DOF is good. My personal preference is to to use Manual Mode with auto ISO. I keep the shutter for stills or flight at 1/2500, this will give me a sharp image for either and reduces noise. It sure as heck helps that the the D850 is full frame and crops at approx 20 mps. I truly believe that Tamron is the best long lens.....
