So, I own Adobe Photoshop CS6 and am considering adding Lightroom to my tool kit. I can't afford the high price of it, nor the high monthly rental fee. Am thinking about buying an older version of Lightroom instead. What is the oldest version that I can use if I buy it used? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There's only great risk in buying someone else's software. It's possible you cannot ever register the software to get it to operate, even if it was a valid software key. Those of us that own LR6 or older, prior to December 2017, have the software key in our Adobe profiles. We can install / reinstall the software based on that existing license key. I'd be fearful Adobe will not allow you to add a 'new' key into your Adobe profile today, given you couldn't possible have bought that software from Adobe.

If you can get it,LR6. VER6.14 It is not supported by Adobe anymore. Mine still runs fine but I miss out on a lot of feature updates & any new cameras released after that aren't supported. They do have a converter that you can download from there site that should work . Its only $10 a month for LR, PS (up to 2 computers)& I believe cc for a smart phone/tablet, with some cloud storage.

Do you really need it? You already have and use CS6, what is that you are missing? What is it about LR that you think you need?

Operating systems change, in time, older unsupported softwares are likely to have problems. So if you buy an order version, is that going to be money well spent? If you can't afford the modern version then maybe you don't need it.

I'm just saying why waste money on something you don't need?

Apparently, I need to learn how to use the CS6 better than I do. I didn't know that the two applications have that much in common.

As far as retouching CS6 will do more than LR. However LR is also a cataloging and sharing program. LR has links to social media, etc that are easy to use. Many people use PS for "heavy lifting" and Lightroom for light retouching and cataloging and sharing.

You can try if free for 30 days to see if it has advantages for you.

Others use LR entirely for their image processing, both RAW and JPEG.

Don't waste your money buying outdated software. Saab was a great car, but it would be foolish to buy one today - even if it were a great deal. Reconsider your spending priorities - I'm sure you'll find an extra $10/mo in there somewhere. . .

The cost of currant PS and LR is only $10.00 a month. They will always be updated.

Right now I'm using Lightroom 2 on my HP envy and it's working fine. I am though planning to start using version 4 for better camera correction control!...Julian

There is no high initial price for lightroom Classic. You also get Lightroom CC, Photoshop, and Bridge all for $10 month. There are are frequent updates for all which clearly improve performance over the older versions

CHG CANON is right on. I once bought Photoshop from someone on eBay. It worked fine until I wanted to install an update and that's when Adobe told me it was not registered. So I would now only buy direct from Adobe or from one of their licensed sellers.

It's difficult for me to understand that people bitch, moan, and groan about spending $10/mo for the best image processing software.

410/mo
