Lass - so good to see you back. Know that you've been in our thoughts and we have all been fascinated with the Alaskan burial traditions. Thank you for sharing with all of us. When Rivernan rescued us by taking on the responsibility of making sure this thread continues, she made 'Red' a 'wild card' that you can use on days when there is a topic that you can't meet. (Using the color red in photos just like her other ongoing thread). Take care ~

Following up on Roadrunner's theme that summer is over I offer this comment and photo after a big wind and rain storm on Wednesday: Photo taken while standing in my back doorway:

The End of Summer!

The shuddering wind shook my house
Forgetting to whisper in its summer voice
It boisterously shouted; Jesting in its autumnal tones of summer's end!

Great "signs" Sher!
In Okinawa, the official position on signs is that they must be polite, no matter what kind of warning they might bear.
Thus most signs will have one or more smiling/crying cartoon figures to help draw the intended audience into the emotion of the moment.
The first sign was found near a cherry blossom festival. The second at a construction site.

"Where do I go? What did I do? I'm sorry, I don't read Japanese!"
"Where do I go? What did I do? I'm sorry, I don'...

"Stop! Stop!!" and "Having a bad day, are you? Well let me tell you about mine..."

This sign is only posted during April and May, here in the Black Forest area of Germany. Its true meaning is that you're not allowed to drive over 30 kph between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. for several kilometers on this road.
During the spring, the frogs come out of nearby ponds and try to cross the road, appropriately nicknamed "Frog Road" because of the signs and because of the "frog fence" which runs along both sides of the road. They get special privileges at sunset.
I've never seen the little creatures, but they must be rather short-legged, as the fences are only 12 to 15 inches high. Not like the frogs that people go hunting for in Texas and Louisiana!

Laskalass, so nice to have you back. You have been so missed.l. Love the pics and captions, especially that baby moose. A red wild card means that at any time you can opt out of a topic and post something that is red..

Enjoying the caterpillar lessons, and Fed Ann's poetry. The wind's not whispering nice things any more at our house, either!
These next few signs were seen on the road to visit a castle near Colmar in France. Since I don't read French, I like to make up my own "interpretations!"

Beware of the Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillar!: the story of this warning was found in the Bangor Daily News:
http://bangordailynews.com/2011/08/30/news/state/entomologists-beware-of-hickory-tussock-caterpillar/
I have seen two of these sweet teddy bear looking appealing caterpillars twice during late August. I only pick up caterpillars by breaking off the leaf I find them on or scoop them up with a small stick or twig. The Hickory Tussock moth in the photo below was left by me where I had found it, And in the second photo is a visual warning of danger at a railroad crossing or maybe could just be considered a red wildcard for the day. I was on a train, at eye level( or camera level) when this picture was taken.
The third photo shows a different species of another Tussock Moth. I don't know if there is a danger warning associated with this caterpillar. Be wary and remain safe. enjoy its beauty with your camera!
