Do you wear glasses ? If you do big screens are much better.
And is the family conference a business meeting where participants may need to refer to off screen data like a whiteboard ?
And is the 15" laptop screen your only option ? Trying to view your new grandchild on a small screen is not the best way to see her. And 15" laptops are really not renowned for their color accuracy or resolution.
I have a cellphone and, believe me on this, needing to wear glasses is one of the biggest pains on this planet.
Too many people "just put up" with what they have because they don't have the knowledge to do anything better, don't have the resources, or view it as a matter of pride that they can do more with less, or a large amount of stubbornness. I have a mate just like that.
But this is, as you said, a matter of opinion so let's leave it at that.

I could get a webcam and spread Zoom over two screens on the desktop,
but the laptop works well, including seeing my grandchildren.
Yes, I wear glasses. Not sure how that affects the result though, just makes things clearer (astigmatism).
Maybe I simply don't require it to look like they're standing in front of me.

Yes, agreed.

I wear glasses because I can't see small things in front of me - like cellphone and small computer screens.

Thatwould explain the only way. I think mine are +1.5 for close.
But I can see clearly at 2-3 feet.

And I guess that your Canon printer is made in Vietnam. They have to make the printer as cheap as possible but don't need to make the ink all that cheap as they make big profit when they sell the ink.

It's actually just the opposite. I worked for a printer manufacturer for almost 20 years and they spared no expense in making the highest quality printer possible. On average they are only going to sell you one printer so they can afford to take a loss - and they do. But they may sell you hundreds of units of ink, so that is where they want to keep costs down and maximize profits - and they do. If they don't make a quality printer, no one will buy it. If no one buys it, they can't sell any ink.

All those that need Webcams. Why not use your DSLR or mirrorless. They do an awesome job. My Canon cartridges ate made in Japan also but I refill with Precision Ink products

When you're on 8-10 Zoom meetings a day for anywhere between 15 min to 1 hour for each, you don't want to burn up hours on your nice camera. I have a nice Logitech webcam that I use for work and teaching online for Purdue University. Many try to use cameras on their laptop or cellphones, but like anything else there are those who present professionally and those who are lounging around in pj's or can't hold a stable connection on their cell and the meetings become rather unproductive while we wait for them to connect/reconnect. I'd rather not use my webcam at all rather than present like that.

For home I use a Brother laser and the dirt used in the cartridge lasts for a good long time. Don't have a nice color printer but I have been looking at them. In looking at color printers, interestingly the Canon line seemingly hasn't changed much in years. I am somewhat surprised at the cost to replace ink cartridges.

I noticed you said Trump is alienating China, do not think what they created was nothing but bad both from a stand point that we and all countries that allow them to make 75% of the generic drugs we use, 90% of the cell phones we use, the list goes on and on we created this monster and now it’s time to cut off the snakes head and feed it to him, it may cost more to make it here but at least we know it’s safe.

With people stuck at home and using Zoom, it's no surprise that webcams are unavailable. There must have been a huge demand for them in the early weeks. What surprises me is still seeing them advertised so much. Click on the site, and they don't have any available.

I see that Amazon is now selling some latex/nitrile gloves to the general public, but the price is much higher than in the past. I started using those gloves for working on cars at least fifteen years ago.

Thanks for the headsup. Still looking for a wide paper high quality printer. I bought Epson
15000 for test prints. Good prints. Epson is big and always contacting me. The missing gear
and stuff we buy with the China game we are playing will come back to haunt us.
I have 5 Sony's and when I have work or creative I buy cards. And the many good
products that are less then half or more from China. Flashes. etc.

My original thought was when we let China etc become our supply house at
situation like our government creating supplies we are used to and don't make anymore.
Companies share parts all over the world. Some products made here can't be manufactured
without key parts from China. I don't think our countries leaders understand how it works
out here.

Thank God for your comment! I didn't want to start a political discussion here but you are absolutely right. It's been way too long in coming that we do just that, "cut off the snakes head" and return manufacturing and all the jobs that were lost in our country! 10's of thousands of factories all across our country lie abandoned along with the towns that they supported. We once lead the world in manufacturing. President Trump is the first, and only one that has been brave enough to turn turn things around. My goodness, is the bottom line how cheap we can get everything? I'll gladly pay a little more for the return of that good ol' label, "MADE IN THE USA!". Or, at least to someone that isn't our mortal enemy.

Feed it to whom?
Not like it's Trumps's fault, it's been a long time coming, MANY years, way before Trump.
Businesses moved to China manufacturing LONG ago.

Just a word to the wise if your answer to any of the above questions is China. I might be tempted to stock up on a few bits and pieces if it was China. I just checked my toners and they say Made in Japan but that is just one model. This was prompted by a possible world wide shortage of webcams specifically Logitech which I suspect might come from China. My supplier is out of every model of Logitech webcam plus a whole raft of other Logitech items and I note that their stock levels with ETA's are now showing all blank.

My cartridges are manufactured by LD, (Canon compatible) and made in China. My webcam, Logitech Pro 9000 is about 15 years old. Have not used it in 10 years. Plugged it in a month ago, updated the driver in Device Manager, and "presto" it works flawlessly. I'm just about the same age as dpullum. I do go out, but very infrequently and keep my distance from others.

I don't think he's blaming the president. Just the opposite. He's been the one to start turning things around.

Awhile back someone stated in one of the many threads on OEM vs aftermarket printer ink on this forum that one aftermarket (or remanufacturing) company makes the ink for many other companies. I can't recall the name. Does anyone know what company that is? Thanks.

Almost any aftermarket company will make it for many brands. Just Google aftermarket ink.
