Mack Trucks still sport the Bull dog. The gold one means the whole Power train is made made by Mack. AKA a pure bred Mack.

Nice shot. I think the animal is an Impala but I doubt that is what the car is. Hood ornaments are so cool! My favorite is the kneeling archer found on the Pierce Arrows.
Probably the last vehicle to sport a hood ornament was the Dodge pickup ram..?

Rolls Royce still sport hood ornaments today.

I also love hood ornaments. At a small car show in Mesquite NV earlier this year your ornament was on a few different cars.

How many people know how the hood ornament got started?
That one is beautiful piece of art.
I looked on line and this is what I found.
It was on a Chrysler 1930's imperial phaeton.

As an aid for removing the radiator cap.

You are correct that in more recent times the gold Bull dog signifies an all Mack drive line, however, in Australia at least, the gold Bulldog initially indicated that the truck was fitted with the high torque Maxidyne engine which came out around 1966, about the same time as the R model. The Maxidyne was a high torque engine which eventually replaced the Thermodyne engine that was fitted to the B model Macks.

I worked for a Mack truck dealer in Darwin in 1969 and I could have made a fortune if I had been able to get my hands on gold Bulldogs. Everybody wanted one regardless of whether or not they owned a Mack truck.

I hope now that Volvo own Mack trucks they retain the Bulldog, somehow a reindeer or similar Swedish animal would not look right on a Mack truck.

I recently visited an auto museum and had the opportunity to photograph numerous classic cars. While these cars, taken as a whole, are absolute beauties, I find that their hood ornaments have a style that could have been created 2,000 years ago a master artist. Here is my first example. Unfortunately, I was moving through the museum so quickly I did not record the make or year of the automobile. If anyone knows, please share the info with me.

Interesting phtoto. I looks classy what ever it is.
