Well, so much for "apolitical", but not unusual after four pages of comments.

I revisited just now and regretted it.

How disappointing that seemingly everything disappears into a political s**t-storm with each side shouting louder and louder while achieving nothing.

So sad and just SO disappointing that we can't have a valuable discourse about what may - and I sincerely hope not! - turn out to be be a world defining event remembered many years into the future.

Regardless of who did or didn't do whatever in the past, we have to go forwards with some agreement on how to react and attack and solve.

We could start with a whole lot more testing and a super-human effort to built more ventilators.

If I've understood correctly, South Korea (now) does more testing in a day than we have done in total so far.

And what is going to kill people - with potential to be a truly shockingly large number - is the shortage of ventilators.

Hmmm.

I think you'll find the link below both interesting and alarming.

Covid-19 hasn't even got it's wheels off the ground yet here in the US and the infection rate - which is no doubt far under-reported which will improve the percentages when real numbers are available - shows a mortality rate of around 3%.

At that level assuming a mere, incredibly conservative, 5% of the population gets sick, that results in 465,000 deaths.

Spanish Flu estimates are as high as 30% of the population infected. The death rate was higher in youth because of the immune response resulting in what is called a "cytokine storm" which caused the lungs to fill with fluid (pneumonia). A victim could be symptom free a few hours before their death! So far we haven't seen that scenario in Corona. It was pointed out in another article that the death rate in China might be higher because of the very high percentage of male smokers in that country.

I believe it's the secondary bacterial pneumonias that killed most of them, would have been treatable if antibiotics were around. I think they stopped leaching before 2018.

Maybe! Iā€™m not sure about the tent cities in LA!šŸ˜Ž

Good (truthful) article here on where we are with testing. Remember testing doesn't do anything for the patient, it is only for planning preventative action and the protection of others. If you are sick, you are sick, it doesn't matter what it is called. There is no different 'cure'. The medical team will treat the symptoms regardless if it is COVID-19 or regular flu. If I get it I would rather have access to a ventilator than a test.
