Obama raised the debt from about 10 trillion to about 20 trillion, or about 1 trillion every year he was in office. Trump is continuing the trend. But in both cases the congress spends the money. So democrat congress must share some of the blame. That said--the debt MUST be brought under control. But untill every American is willing to take the hit and do with less, it won't change.

LOL Carol, and I suppose that Obama and the preceding Houses and Senates had nothing to do with it, Trump himself spent those $23 Trillion dollars and he also set up the structure of the government that feeds the nation's debt. Democrats really crack me up.

What makes you think that it was ever a binary choice and what makes you think that the way Obama did it, although he was able to finally turn the economy around, was the most productive way to do it. As I remember what money that was not wasted on green initiatives and turning GM over to the unions was spent on keeping public unions fully employed and doling out food stamps and SSI disability payments.

According to Pelosi the Democrats most effective stimulus was the SNAP Program.

Tax revenue has gone up, so that has nothing to do with the deficit. Deficits are caused by spending, not tax policy.

It is interesting that this was posted today since Trump has released his proposed budget for the next year, which cuts spending by approximately 3 trillion. Of course it won't pass, and that is the whole point. It isn't Trump that is currently raising the national debt and it isn't tax cuts. Spending is the purview of the house of representatives followed by the senate. They are to blame for all of the debt, including during Obama's administration.

Not quite/ Bush bailed out the banks. The TARP was signed before Obama was elected. And he was wrong. He should have let them file Chapter 11. The real problem was Fanny and fredie which lead to sub prime mortages. Obama signed the 'Stimulus program" which was a scam so as to create a slush fund for the unions. So the "depression" would have not happened. Even though Obama dramatically raised the debt, he crippled the military and reduced the military to pre-WW2 levels, forbwhich were were unprepared. We won WW2 because of our outproducing our enemies. We do not have the producing capabilities that we had in the 1940's. Trump's debt increase is largely due to the rebuilding the military.

The budget is what leads to debt. If taxes were raised on the wealthiest the debt could be lowered to a manageable level.
