When did Nikon take an exception to the New Chinese year, to release a new camera, like the D880?

Chinese new year for this year has already passed.

I'm surprised Nikon is skipping numbers. Going from D800 by tens would allow for a lot more updates. I'm guessing the next update will be the D900.

I like it. Looking for price drop on refurb D850s.

Well, that should solve any inadequacies photographers have been experiencing. That along with lightening their bank accounts.

The cell phone camera has mostly market impact on the consumer-level compact pocket point & shoot camera, not the DSLR camera. Not the casual shooter, but the serious hobbyist is the primary purchaser of DSLR cameras. And the the serious hobbyist will always want more than what a cell phone camera can deliver - optics, functionality, etc.

I think there is more of them than the "serious hobbyist". Their mindset will not move in a DSLR direction. The cell phone is easy they will not sweat the small stuff or waste time talking about ISO, Shutter speed or the rest of the BS.

I do think many not serious will move toward the cell phone and many serious hobbyists will move toward the mirrorless. So there won't be many buying DSLR's.

I suspect the mirrorless vs. DSLR competition will be driven more by price. Nikon seems conflicted on that by offering the Z50 kit at an attractive price while coming out with the D780 and announcing D880. And overpricing the other Z lenses.

Those who want Video will go mirrorless because of the EVF. IMHO that is a minority of the digital camera (vs. cell phone) market.

An indicator might be if the D880 comes out with the Z mount.
