So much for the demise of the DSLR. A new Df with interchangeable finders would be exciting.

Oh!! Those iPhones and Smartphones. They just coming and coming. And, where they stop, nobody knows. And, the cameras on them just keep getting better and better. And, you can't avoid seeing them, wherever you are. Day and night. 365 days a year.

When did Nikon take an exception to the New Chinese year, to release a new camera, like the D880?

The carriers seem to be featuring the latest phones for their cameras. The question is, how much market remains, and how will it be allocated amongst traditional camera companies??

The cell phone camera has mostly market impact on the consumer-level compact pocket point & shoot camera, not the DSLR camera. Not the casual shooter, but the serious hobbyist is the primary purchaser of DSLR cameras. And the the serious hobbyist will always want more than what a cell phone camera can deliver - optics, functionality, etc.

Yeah, but. This is the new selfie generation. And those hobbyists are dying out.
I was at the Metro store recently. For $159 I could get a phone- 16mp front and 8mp rear camera.
For people that almost never print, and then almost never print bigger than 5x7, why a DSLR?
My grand niece wanted my help to get a camera. Too many folk wanted her to buy their "old" camera.
After some talking (and a lot of listening) she now has an Instax Wide. She's really happy with it.

I'm surprised Nikon is skipping numbers. Going from D800 by tens would allow for a lot more updates. I'm guessing the next update will be the D900.

"A lot of folks" here take pictures. I would not buy or short any camera company based on their evaluation.
If push comes to shove, there may be a merger between some camera companies.

No promise of a followup. If you plan to get one, this may be it.
