I'm doing something wrong when I try to delete photos from LR, Help!!

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I import all of my photos using LR. I look through them and mark the ones I want to delete. Then I go to photos and select delete rejected photos. I always select delete from disk. They disappear from LR but when I open "photos" on my computer, there they all are. I'm ending up with lots of photos on my hard drive that I don't want. The only way I can seem to eliminate them is by doing so a second time directly from the photo file. Please let me know if my question needs additional clarification.

Thanks in advance for taking time to respond.

What "photos" are you opening? If it is Google Photos, there may be copies all over the internet! Whatever "photos" you are selecting, may not be related to anything Adobe does!

Are you using Lightrooom as an extension within photos?
This question
assumes that you work on a Mac with the native Photos app installed

Not sure I fully understand the question, but could it be that the command you mention applies to images you have flagged as rejected using the flag feature? I'm unsure because I delete with a right click, and choose remove, where a dialog asks if you want to remove completely or just from the Lightroom catalog.

I am sorry, I really don't know what I'm doing!! Not even enough to answer your question. I use LR Classic. I open that program to download my photos but they end up in my photo file as well.

I'm rejecting them with an "x" and choose remove when asked if I want to remove from the disk as well. They're still in my photo file although they're not in LR anymore.

See if this helps. https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/lightroom-catalog-basics.html

Your stored pictures and the Lightroom catalog are two different things in different folders, but you can manage the picture folders from within Lightroom.

I wish I knew how to answer your question. The term "Photos" appears when I open the files on my computer. The icon looks like two peaks. It is what I used to use before I started using LR.

Hang in, there are some knowledgable Lightroom users here. I won't try to add to the confusion with more guesses. You might restart the system just in case, and see if any of this helps.

When I choose delete from disk from within LR,(my pics go to the trash bin)(pc) (garbage bin icon on your desk top). Every so often, I empty my trash bin.

Lightroom gives me a choice, remove from Lightroom or remove from disk.

Don't choose remove, do the other option. Remove only removes the photo from Lightroom. The other option deletes the photo from both Lightroom and the disk.

You might need to tell us more about what happened before your culling process in Lightroom. Someone asked earlier about what type of computer you're using. I can describe a Windows process, but your post is unclear. "Photos" seems like a Mac / Apple process.

When you did the "Import" of the image files into Lightroom, how was this done? Are the files copied from the camera / camera card onto the computer disk?

When you most recently experienced this problem, you must still have some images remaining in LR after culling / deleting others? For example, you maybe started with IMG001, IMG002, IMG003. If you 'deleted from disk' the first two images, in LR you should still have IMG003. In the LR Library Grid mode, if you right-click IMG003, you should then see a menu that gives an option like "Show in Explorer". If you select this option, LR should open a new window showing you where the file IMG003 resides on the computer. Confirm the location and the contents of this folder, are the other two images (IMG001, IMG002) located in this folder, or have they been removed?

So now when you open Photos and you again "see" images IMG001 and IMG002, where are there images located? If the image files were deleted by LR above, Photos is showing you image files that reside someplace else. Where is that other place?

Confirming these details should help us understand what is happening. You should not have to delete the files twice, but we need to understand if two you're seeing two versions of the same file and then understand how that is happening.
