I thought you said that there was some display such as a splash screen or a message ( text?) before the display went dead. This is enough for you to start the trouble shooting process and determine if your hard drive is dead.

That was a different post on the same day, that problem was solved by replacing the CMOS battery.

Hi Mike, no the machine is not working and the only thing I said appeared on the screen was the monitors internals saying no signal detected. No splash screen or anything else. I have a power supply in an old machine, I will switch that out and see it that fixes and if not then I am giving up

If the power supply is good and if you want to take a chance that the CPU is good, you might look for a replacement mother board on Ebay. If you have an older machine, these used boards are pretty cheap and many have been tested. This of course presumes the CPU is OK.

Thanks for the idea, but I will just pick up one of the new ones without monitor etc. Will only be around $400 for one that does what I need it for and $600 for one that is overkill.
