Before the internet and cell phones kids had to scrounge baby buggy wheels, an old plank, some rope and miscellaneous hardware to make life more interesting. No helmets which meant iodine and band aids
where accepted consequences for tipping over and meeting the pavement. No matter it was worth having
the wind in your face with a few moments of controlling your destiny. Brakes? Who needs some stinking
brakes? Your adventure was only limited by your imagination and the slant of the hill.

More kids learned how to work with their hands back then as well. Necessity is the mother of invention!

I can concur with that exception for the Orange stuff for cuts and such! The middle fifties were a wonderful time for me.

This looks like a precursor to the National Soap Box Derby Races. They have lost a lot of attention in the past few decades. They got many a child (boys and girls) working with their fathers to build and race the cars in a controlled and fun event.

Yeah, I remember those days. Every one of those karts was an original design, but all were fun

Great photograph. The 1960's was a wonderful time for kids to grow up.
