Camera batteries are lithium ion and should only be charged with the specific charger designed for them. If that charger plugs into the wall you will need an inverter as well as a battery pack. Keep in mind that if your camera battery is 1500 mah (for instance) your battery pack will have to produce at least that much energy for each battery charged.

Some chargers will work with wither 120 or 240, mine do (cell phone also). Read what is on the charger.
In that case one may only need an (plug) adapter.

Why I keep my old POTS landline - works when the electricity is out. Voltage over the copper POTS.

This is off topic but I hope cell service is still available for Calif areas without power?
We used to have a regular landline but converted to internet line when fiber optic was installed. Now we rely on my cellphone when power is out, and I carry backup power for it.

Question. Would I be able to charge a Nikon EN-EL15 battery from a high capacity power bank via a USB charger?

Have been using Wasabi batteries in my Nikons for years. They are excellent, and come with more compact chargers as well as Auto and European adapters. I have used them in DF, D750, D7200 and D810. The D500 is a different situation per Nikon. Link https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/ni/NI_article?articleNo=000004779&configured=1&lang=en_US
Don't have a D500, but it appears that non Nikon batteries are now available. I travel with 3 spares per camera - have yet to have one fail or run out of power.

Maybe.
It would depend on the capacity of the power bank and the capacity of the battery.

For example, I have a 10,000MaH power bank and can charge my cellphone four times with it.
(Therefore surmising that the phone battery capacity is about 1/4 of the bank capacity.)

If the battery is rated at 10,000MaH, one MAY get one charge from the bank, possibly not a complete charge though. You can't put more power into something from a "less power" device.

Nikon has upped the ante on prohibiting competitor batteries on their newer cameras. My Z6 pointedly refuses non-Nikon batteries that worked great on my D800. If they can I suspect they’ll implement this on firmware upgrades.

It may work for a while, but anywhere there is money to be made, battery makers will find a workaround.

That’s helpful thank you. The power bank is 20000 so may get 2 charges. Along with starting with 4 fully charged batteries it should be enough

Possibly? Like I said, it depends on the capacity of the battery you want to charge.

Connections? I've seen camera battery chargers that receive power from an AC/wall outlet or a car cigarette lighter, but never from a USB connection. Alternatively, I've had many power banks that will deliver a charge to a device through a USB connection, but never one that would deliver a charge through an AC type connection like my battery charger needs. Do these exist?

Neither have I, but I figured he had some sort of capable charger.
(I don't keep up with those things, I usually only worry about what I have.)

Wasabi batteries DO work in the Nikon D500. Have had both my D500 and Wasabi batteries for it since November, 2017 and had a minor issue with my first order of Wasabi batteries. For whatever reason, they were not recognized by my D500. Received replacement Wasabi’s with NO hassle. I didn’t even have to return the first order. FWIW, those work perfectly in my D7200. The new ones have been in use for close to 2 years with NO issues at all.

We’ve been using Wasabi batteries in all our cameras for about 10 years, and have been happy with their performance. They are alsoMU H less expensive than the Nikon OEM’s.

Nikon Zs can be charged directly with an AC adapter. The Z7 kit comes with one.

Yes, but can they be charged from a portable power bank? He won't have access to an AC outlet.
