I went back to the camera store to test the 90D and took a blank card to take a few pics. I took 10 and came back to download them and ran into a problem. The ext on the photos is CR3 and although they download (I guess can't see them). There is nothing in the photos. All of these tests were in RAW as that is all I shoot. I checked files from 2 days ago and all files end in CR2, and they all work fine in download. I am running the latest version of PS CC. What if anything can I do about this?

Adobe DNG converter is free or use the EOS DPP Utility.

Did you research what CR3 files are and whether using this file type was a setting you should consider using? The topic did happen to come up in another discussion today too: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-612160-1.html

DPP - Digital Photo Professional

From your EOS 90D user's manual, try page 200 or text-search on the PDF file for CR3.

First, Adobe has a raw converter that you can download from the Adobe website that will take the CR3 and convert it to a dng which is a universal raw format. Just Google adobe dng converter and download the app then you'll be able to see and edit those photos. The reason that you can't see or work on the CR3 files right now is because it takes Adobe about 2-4 weeks after ANY new camera is released for them to make the proprietary format to work with Photoshop and Lightroom.

Second, Canon has software that's called DPP or Digital Photo Professional (I think) and it works with all the files for all Canon cameras. It's designed for all Canon raw files no matter what camera Canon has. But you'll need to download from the canon website the latest version of DPP.

CR3 are not that new and if you are running the latest CC check to see if you have taken all the updates. what level of PS CC are you at?

CR3 is the newest raw file version. It is different and not readable from current PSCC. It always takes a while for Adobe to reverse engineer and include it in updates. One of the beauties of the PSCC subscription model is updates to software happen as soon as they are available, not waiting until the next major upgrade.

Until Adobe updates, you can use Canon's DPP to convert CR3 files or Adobe's DNG conversion.

All RAW file are unique to the camera whether they use a 'known' file extension or not. That Adobe does not yet support RAW files from a brand-new EOS 90D is no different than the time it takes Adobe to support all new releases from all camera manufacturers. Imagine if every new camera had to use a new (unused) 3-character extension for that camera's RAW files.

Ok, you are just too far ahead of the curve. Would suggest the dng converter for now.

Downloading Canon's DPP software assures compatibility with EOS related file types, in addition to 3rd party converters.

I had the same problem with the RP, it took Adobe about a month to get up to date with the camera, meanwhile the Canon Image transfer utility and DPP worked fine. In DPP there is a send file to Photoshop choice, or you can save as a lossless tiff and use in lightroom as usual.

The 90d is on the compatible list though. You might run an update through creative cloud. https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

It says Lightroom classic version 8.4 is needed. I'm running 8.4.1 after last week's update. Be worth a check under the help menu, system info.
