All: I am in the process of purchasing a Nikon D750 and use my Nikon D7100 as a 2nd camera.
Currently, there is a bundle (Nikon D750 DSLR with 24-120mm VR Lens) for $1997.00. I can get a used body only for around $1,000 but have never purchased a used camera. Would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. Thank you - Joy

I agree with CO - stick with what you found.
Like a dope, I bought a new D750 body only for $2,300. But that was the going price back in the spring of 2015. But I opted for a Tamron 24-70mm G2 series instead of the Nikon 24-120mm. Either way you cannot go wrong.

I've bought lots of used cameras, but unless they are refurbished, I always get an accurate shutter count. "Hasn't been used much" doesn't mean a thing. If you're not interested in that lens, buy the body separately. I bought a DSLR a few years ago, and it was available only with a lens. I bought the kit and sold the lens, but buying just the body would have been better financially.

If you find one here in the for sale forum you should be OK otherwise a reputable dealer can sell you one at a reasonable price and give you a warranty. If you are in a tight budget the Nikon 24-85 G, AF-S, VR is a very good lens at a third of the price in the used market of the 24-120 VR if that could be of interest to you.

New has a one year warranty, but, I have owned over 50 Nikon bodies over the years and none of them has ever needed service.
Refurbished carries a 30 day warranty. https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/refurbished-dslr-cameras/d750-refurbished.html
Used carries no implied warranty unless specified.
If you buy used, get mint in the box that includes everything as new, get a used camera with a low shutter count, less than 5,000 clicks, and make sure you buy a US model, that way, if it does need servicing, Nikon US will repair it.
PS. I own and use the 24-120 f4 and love the range and sharpness of this lens.

If you buy from a reputable company and they have refurbished it or have acquired it refurbished and they offer a warranty, whats the worry?

Thank you. Currently, Adorama doesn't have any used/refurbished D750's. The camera/lens bundle I mentioned is from Adorama although I know others have the same price.

I just went to Adorama's website and they have a used D750 for $1059.

Thank you. Do you know if KEH will supply the shutter count prior to purchase? I know mpb group does but don't hear that company much in discussions of camera purchases.

You can feel comfortable dealing with MPB. They are great to deal with, ship promptly, and items received
are as described, or better.

I just purchased a used D750 from KEH last month. The 750 shutter count was 1200 and the camera was in perfect condition. I've bought several lenses from them and everything has always been better then advertised.
hope this helps

The 24-120 lens is ok but not great. I now use a 70-200 and 16-35 lens and sometimes a fisheye. If you think you are going to need different lenses don’t get the 24-120.

Be aware (see post above) that there are two versions of the 24-120 VR..( as well as some old non VR junk).the first one was so bad that it was quickly changed for one with more elements.. physically they look the same. Check the spec on the Nikon website and you should note the number of elements and check the one you are buying has the higher number.
Just checked 17 elements in 13 groups ,,I think the old one was 15 elements.

The advantage of the 28-300 is there is only one model..dont forget to do the fine focus adjust ( mine was +15) and up the sharpness in picture control to +9

I had a 24-120 lens for my D750 (both bought used), and recently traded the 24-120 in for a new 28-300 from Tempe Camera. The weight was not that much different, and after reading Ken Rockwell’s review of both lenses, and his recommendation to go with the 28-300, I did. It beat having to carry two lenses when I needed various lengths for shooting. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.

The 24-120 was part of my new kit purchase but it wasn't long before I realized that I couldn't live with that short a reach for a walk-around lens. I would up selling the 24-120 on eBay and buying the 28-300 from Nikon. I love my D750 with 28-300 - perfect walk-around combination!

You didn't say what lens you used when you rented the D750, but that should be the lens you buy when it arrives. The 2 lenses I've seen as being popular with the D750 are the 28-300 and the 24-120. I got the 24-120 because that is where I do most of my shooting, I often need that extra wideness at the short end, and the f4 constant aperture. Ken Rockwell chose the other route, claiming that there is little difference between 24 and 28, the f5.6 is seldom an issue, and you gain 180 more mm reach at the long end. Both lenses are about the same physical size.

Another thing to keep in mind with a used Nikon is whether or not it is a Gray Market unit. If buying it new from an authorized dealer or directly from Nikon, there should be no problem. From any other source, if you get the serial number, you may be able to determine its status buy calling Nikon customer service. Depending on who you speak with, they can look it up. If it was sold new to a dealer directly from Nikon, or had come in for servicing, they should be able to tell you.
