All: I am in the process of purchasing a Nikon D750 and use my Nikon D7100 as a 2nd camera.
Currently, there is a bundle (Nikon D750 DSLR with 24-120mm VR Lens) for $1997.00. I can get a used body only for around $1,000 but have never purchased a used camera. Would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. Thank you - Joy

The D750 is $1496 new right now. I purchased a new one just months ago for $1296. It has gone up a little since then. With a used camera you don't know what the shutter count is and how it was handled. I would go for the D750 + 24-120mm lens you found.

I saw it when it was at the $1200+ mark and was dragging my feet. The reviews on the lens are pretty good. I'm heading to Chicago next month and it might be a good walk around lens.
Thanks for the input! Joy

All my current cameras were bought used as well as the majority of the lenses. If price is an issue, consider used and a vendor that allows a return, no questions asked, like KEH for 2-wks after initial delivery. The D750 is estimated to 150,000. You can estimate your usage. If you're 1000 per week, every week for the entire calendar year, that's about 2.8 years. But, if you where more like 1000/mth, that's 12+ years. Just review the source of the used body, whether you can handle it / check the count before purchase, or they provide a no-risk return option.

Thank you. Do you know if KEH will supply the shutter count prior to purchase? I know mpb group does but don't hear that company much in discussions of camera purchases.

I believe 'no' for KEH. If you don't want it after checking upon receipt, get a Return Authorization and free shipping label and send it back.

Buy used from a reputable dealer. I bought my D500 from Adorama and I'm well satisfied.

Thank you. Currently, Adorama doesn't have any used/refurbished D750's. The camera/lens bundle I mentioned is from Adorama although I know others have the same price.

Even if it's got a scuff or two on the outside, a used camera can be fine for quality photography. I was going to pick up a used 750 when somebody bought me a new one as gift. It's far better than any crop camera I've ever had, and has changed my basic technique. The dynamic range is fascinating and can help me take the shots I've wanted to for a long time. Either way you go, don't pass up on the opportunity to get a tool that will help you stretch your abilities to close in on your vision. I think the lens you mention would also bring you a lot of joy, but I'm finding plenty of utility with a simple 50mm 1.8.

I've had my finger on the 'buy' button at Adorama for 2 days.
I rented the D750 for the July 4th weekend and was in awe of the detail. Knew then I had to have it. Taking a week next month to drive through North Carolina and photograph waterfalls, elk, sunrise, sunsets and want the D750.

Regarding the 24x120MM, f/4 lens - that lens was part of my D810 bundle. I have found it to be a very good lens and would serve you well as an all day walk around lens. Regarding buying used, I have had good luck the times I have gone that route. From my read here on UHH, most members have had good luck when dealing with known reputable used camera equipment sellers. I would not hesitate to do it again.

I had a 24-120 lens for my D750 (both bought used), and recently traded the 24-120 in for a new 28-300 from Tempe Camera. The weight was not that much different, and after reading Ken Rockwell’s review of both lenses, and his recommendation to go with the 28-300, I did. It beat having to carry two lenses when I needed various lengths for shooting. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.

I found a used D750 with a shutter count of 6500. That's like new. I paid $949.00 for the body only. I was able to handle it before purchase due to it being sold in a "brick and mortar" store in Houston. If you have a store within 100 miles or so I would check with them first. That's probably the only way to get the shutter count before purchase unless you buy from an individual.

Most of my gear-including my D750-was used when I got it. I have had no problems, or complaints. I buy from reliable dealers who sell both new, and used, gear. Adorama, and B&H Photo-Video, are a couple of the best sources of used gear. I avoid EBay, and most other sources. Another good source of used gear is Nikon. Check it's site-nikonusa.com-as it has used, factory refurbished, items available.

After going back and forth most of the day, decided on a used D750 from Adorama. As much as I'd love to add another lens to the collection, that can wait a bit. Thanks everyone for your input. You gave me the courage to save a few $$'s and go with a used camera.
