Hi Bob.
What you'll find is the darker areas will be hopelessly noisy but the lighter areas are not too bad and can be corrected in Affinity. Lightroom does not do a very good job of noise reduction. I also used the highpass filter in Affinity to sharpen the image a little bit.
I am often pleasantly surprised at how well the D500 handles high ISO.
I am a big fan of "auto ISO" and always use it in iffy situations.

Beautiful capture, John. Not that it really matters but your EXIF states that the ISO was 8,000, not 16,000.
