all depends on what we use it for. I still use a version of “Photoshop Limited Edition” that is something like fifteen years old, on a WinXP computer that I use only to run a Nikon slide scanner that is also around fifteen years old. The whole system is isolated from the Internet, of course, as I use ‘thumb drives’ to transmit these photos to my main {Linux} desktop computer.

The Adobe site has a chat tool. I'd try their technical support and see if you can determine why you're having a problem with your key.

I use Chats most of the time. Adobe's is excellent.

I for some reason I decided not to use LR/PS I would probably go back to PSE and upgrade every other year. Why use four or five year old software when there are better tools available at a reasonable price?

Right on! $10.00 a month is a no brainer for always the latest and greatest!

Through my own Stupidity, my hard was erased and I lost my Lightroom 5. I tried to download it again but it says the key code is invalid. Before I wiped the hard drive I did move all the photos and stuff from my external HD. I also downloaded my Lightroom 5 to the same thumb drive. Everything downloads Ok but my key doesn't work anymore. I checked eBay to see if there was anything available I could afford. What is available is really expensive or comes without a key code(?). Does anyone have any ideas? I would rather own an older version than pay $10 bucks every month.

Call Adobe on the phone and tell them about your Key. Lr 5 is rather old. You sound like you think one Key opens/installs/runs more than one program. ???

I have a question: How did you acquire the key code?

I'm with you on this. Fixes, new function all in the same stream. It's worth twice the price.

I bought Lightroom 5 on Amazon, it was an instant download and was supplied with keycode with the link to the download. This was maybe 6 years ago; set up a new computer 2 years ago with no problems.

Some of you don't get it. For some of us, $10 a month is the "straw that broke the camel's back" . There are those who are on fixed incomes or have extreme family needs and all other kinds of circumstances. Those of you who can say, "What's a little $10 dollars?" are quite fortunate to be able to have that kind of life style situation. I cringe every time I see someone flippantly saying that. For example, I was only able to go to 2 photo shoots this year. LR would have cost me $120 for only 2 uses, a waste some of us just can not afford in any way shape or form. Please don't be so flippant about a mere $10.00. To some of us,it's all the money in the world.

Thankyou Flakes, You hit that nail squarely on the head, I am retired and on a somewhat fixed income. Photography is my main past-time. I also do roof inspection for a couple of roofing companies with a drone. As you stated I may not use LightRoom, sometimes for several weeks, it is not my favorite processing software. I prefer PS Elements for most everything I do post-process. While $10. wouldn't be a real hardship it is not economical for me. With my own software, I can use or not use it at my leisure. I believe I paid $79. for a download on Amazon, probably 6 years ago, so you see this was a good deal for me and exactly what I needed. For me, it is a handy software (especially for RAW) for me to have on hand.

I'm of the same opinion: If you own the software, use the software and the software does what you need, why buy it again or buy a replacement?

But, what's missing from this thread is clarity about has happened? Why can't you re-install? What did Adobe tell you about your key? If you own a copy of PSE, what is the status of this tool, has your computer issue impacted this software as well?

For me, I have a life outside. I'm traveling 4 months out of the year. Yes, I'm taking thousands of photos, but after a day of exploration, the only energy I have is to offload the SD cards to the laptop and external HDD'S and recharge the cameras' batteries. Don't care to spend the time or energy for any processing. So a monthly fee for something I won't be using seems a bit wasteful. My "old" LR6 does just fine, along with ON1. Yes, someday when I hang up the ole boots, I'll switch, but not yet.

I’ve been using LR for years and I’m retired and on a fixed income but I look at it this way . Where is your passion is it worth a couple cups of coffee a month or missing a meal at Perkins. I would venture to say the ones who cry the most are shooting the D810 . If you are a serious photographer then you can afford $10 month . Quit crying and get it.

I can afford it, I've heard it's great software, wouldn't doubt it for a second. But it's not supported on Linux, so does that mean I am more or less serious because of that?

Sorry, but everyone has their own reasons for using their own flow, no need to put anyone down for their choice of camera or software. All software is great for the person that has a need for it.

If it's so cheap, you've likely already PMed our OP and sent a paypal contribution for their first year subscription, right?

"B&H still has a few of LR 6 left around (or they did a month ago). I think they are $60."

I think you may need to add about $100 to that. The $10/month plan is the better deal. Does anyone remember the cost of a 36 shot roll of Kodachrome with processing?
