USB photos on smart TV

I post process photos, put them on a thumb drive (USB) and try to view them on my LG smart TV. Most will not show... only a few can be viewed. I'm wondering if this a function of the way I'm post processing and if so, is there any way to avoid it? What is causing this?

I use a Nikon D750, Canon SX50, and an iPhone 8 Plus camera, and PP with Photoshop CC.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Eric

Not enough info, eplahna. What is the format of the finished photos? JPEG? TIFF? RAW? What is the resolution of your TV? 720p? 1080p 2160p?

You say that some can be viewed, which suggests that your photos may not be optimized for the output of your TV.

What format are the final images in ? I would think they would have to be jpegs and not DNG...

Thanks for the reply Just Fred. They are all JPEGs and the resolution of the TV is 3840 X 2160... 2160p.

What did you do when creating the image files? A 'smart' TV will play JPEGs (extension 'jpg'). When you analyze those that played and those that didn't, what do you observe? If you can't discern the technical differences in the files, try attaching and storing the original of an example of two images, one that worked and one that didn't.

We really need more information from you. I pulled the PDF manual of a random LG TV (a generic manual for LG OLED TV that covers 14 specific models). Sadly it doesn't include any information about show images from the available USB drive.

From creating images onto a similar large-screen TV, I looked up the pixel resolution of the target TV and then used LR to create JPGs at the long-size pixel resolution that matched the size of the target TV. You can do the same in a batch process using PS if not comfortable with the easier LR export process. But, you need to confirm the technical details and / or provide the requested examples.

I don't know if your TV is the same but my Sony 4K TV won't show picture that is larger than 4K.

With the D 750, you can use an optional HDMI cord (and AC adapter if necessary) and play direct from the camera. HDMI setup is in the camera menu. PPS 277-279 of the camera User Manual.

CHG... it's an LG OLED55B8PUA. I understand what you're saying, but not sure I have the knowledge to appreciate technical differences in photo data. You've given me some ideas that I will pursue... but hopefully I'll be able to attach (novice at UHH posting) a view-able pic and no show, and you'll be able to see what's up. Will work on that now...

Alas, the PDF for your model is no different than the one I look at ....

For posting two examples, just make sure each file is 20MB or smaller for the file size limits of this site. The 'store original' is that small box, shown below.

CHG... (haven't figured out how to include the message you sent) The closeup photo is the one that works, the other does not. Another UHH person said that perhaps size is a factor.

Looking at the images, the cropped one is likely a smaller file size. Try limiting the file size on the uncropped one and see if that does the trick

Hopefully, the solution is as easy as resizing all your images to fit the size of the TV. The bottom of this post provides screen print examples of how to do this with different softwares. Recommended resizing parameters for digital images

Sorry I'm messing up... a lot... but here's another photo from the same batch that was view-able and it's 9.55 MB:

Don't let 'file size' lead you down a deadend. Adjust your pixel resolution as demonstrated in the UHH link. Of course, this image is 'larger' in pixels at 4999x3548 ... I'd try resizing the first image of the puffin that didn't work as see what happens with a resized image at 3840x2160. If that solves the problem, you then have a workable solution you just have to implement in-bulk for all your images.

I see... thank you... so the size in MB isn't as important here as the dimensions. Looks good, I'll give that a try... thanks again.
