What do you recommend I take for a driving trip through Switzerland covering Zurich, Bern, Montreux, Vevey, Lausanne.
I have an 850D with Nikon 70/200 f/2.8, Nikon 35 mm prime and Nikon 38-300.

1 Which lens(es) should I take ?
2. Would a 24/70 have been more suitable?
3. Should I take a tripod ( pain in the....!)

I only take a tripod if I believe I'll get some serious photography --Alone Time--while I'm there.

Your widest lens is 35mm. That is not wide enough to take in panoramic shots, nor to take great shots in the narrow streets of Zurich or Bern--although to some extent this is a matter of personal preference. I think that you would be better off with a 24-70 (full-frame). There probably will be times when you would like to have a 70-200 as well.

I shoot Sony full-frame. I travel in Europe a lot, including Switzerland (am in Germany right now). I always take my 24-105 and my 18mm prime.

When I went to Switzerland I found that the mountains got in the way of the scenery .

You are only one of many folks who come here asking what to take on trips. I believe you are taking the wrong equipment. I only take the Sony HX99, a pocket camera with a 24-750 mm lens and a pop up viewfinder which acts just like my D850 to view through. I can put this camera in a belt pouch and I am hands free. It's pop up flash does beautiful, perfect fill flash and 6 stops on HDR, more than the D850 can do. TRAVEL RIGHT, TRAVEL RIGHT.
I can print to 20X30 without an issue. Why take anything else?

All 3 lenses.
No tripod as it appears this might be a canned tour.
If on your own take a good travel tripod like the Manfrotto 190 series.

I never travel with a big tripod, but I often bring a table-top tripod.

TRAVEL RIGHT.....TRAVEL LIGHT.
Based on your gear...I would only take the 28-300. It covers every range you are considering with the other lenses and will work just fine. Enjoy your trip.

Facts from my trip to Venice, Italy (urban landscape scenes) and Havana, Cuba (urban landscape and people scenes). In Cuba I most often used the 24, 40, and 120mm settings and in Venice I most often used the 24,70,78, and 120 settings. I did, much less often, use a longer length setting at times. I believe you are the best person to determine what you are going to shoot and what you will need as, obviously, people have differing views on the subject.

I have a bean bag (borrowed from a corn hole set) and use that as a tripod, it is very easy to set your camera up in the position you want

I personally only carry a Tamron 28-300 and a Canon wide angle for city use

I know what follows isn't applicable to your car cruise vs. my river cruise but take it FWIW.
Two years ago we did a Viking River Cruise. I like shooting FF. I took 2 cameras; Sony A7II, Nikon D610, and 3 lenses; 24-70, 70-200, 50 1.8. Of course no tripod. I felt comfortable that I had everything covered and wound up with stunning shots. This year we're doing another river cruise (different river). Going full Sony, I plan on both my A7II and A7RII and 24-70 (f4) and 70-300 (3.5-5.6) with 50 (1.8). I know 2 cameras can, at times, be a PIA but I never missed a shot and have beautiful (un-cropped) lifetime memories.

I would take the 35 MM and the 38-300 MM lens.
