So, I am thinking about upgrading to a better quality Nikon DSLR, however, I own several DX lenses that I am not willing to give up using on the new one. Please recommend an upgrade from a D7100 that will accept DX lenses…………thanks!

D7200, D7500, D500 are all upgrades from a D7100.

D500. The best crop sensor camera on the market today.

If you can go with the best Nikon DX, D500.

If you fit a 1.4 teleconverter your DX lenses will fill the frame on FX.
None of the other DX Nikons will give a substantial image quality improvement but the D500 is better for birds action .. Just give up /sell up and get a D850

When you sold all those lenses you don't need you can ...a 200-500 for the birds , a 28-300 for the walkabout and a Samyang 14mm for the interiors ...job done

A D7200 is step up from the D7100, but if you shoot anything at all that involves action, the D500 is the ticket. I don’t think you will find a better APS-C camera anywhere, in a DSLR. It’s a bit more expensive than the D7500, but so much more camera.

Just my biased opinion,

D7100 > D7200 > D500

D5300 > D7500

D3300 > D5500

Nikon went backwards with their new models

The D500 certainly is the best Nikon crop sensor camera. This would be the only sensible step up, other than switching to the newer D7xxx models. Given the number of DX lenses you own your options are limited. Furthermore, rumor has it that Nikon might not develop new DX models other than a successor to the D7500, thus further limiting DX options in the future.

In my opinion, it is not worth it to upgrade to a full-frame camera, like the D850, if you do not get full-frame lenses. Once you decided to make this kind of radical switch you might as well go mirrorless.

From the D7100 you need to go straight to the D500. The D5, D500, and D850 have Nikon's best autofocus system. They're the first Nikons to have a processor dedicated to just the autofocus system. I use the D500 a lot for model photo shoots. The joystick controller lets me move focus points around quickly.
