Costco for printing photos

I have decided to try to do some photo printing, for the purpose of sharing images beyond Facebook by actually printing them on paper.

My understanding is that it is possible to work with my computer and the printer at Costco, using a "profile". However, I have no clue how to actually do it.

I have a 27" Mac and use Photos and PSE.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Put your print-ready files (JPG or TIF) on a thumb drive or SD card, take them to Costco (or Office depot or Walgreen's or most FedEx stores) and say "please print these."

I just send them LARGE JPEGs of the images I want printed and they do very well.
I do luster, thin white border (because of mounting), and "AS IS" meaning they do not color correct.
Try a luster and glossy and see which you like best.

You can send your photos to Costco online, no need to put them on a thumb drive and carry them over, then wait for the print.
Sending it online (you select which Costco to send them to) means it will probably be ready for pickup when you get there (unless you live too close).
I'd recommend just trying a sRGB jpg to try them out. The prices are reasonable so you can do some experimenting.

At the federal mileage rate, it's cheaper to have them make some prints than it is to drive there.

Yes. I send on-line and drive over in a day or three (10 miles), or the next Costco run.
Definitely sRGB.
And, they are on photographic emulsion paper(so I'm told).
(They do all my printing larger than an occasional 4x6 or 5x7 so I don't use a ton of ink, at $75 a set.)
They even have a crop mask on-line if the aspect ratio for the print(s) is different than the original file.

I use Costco for all of my printing. Sending them photos online is simple. Unless you are a computer geek and your monitor is totally calibrated (for color and brightness) I suggest having Costco correct your photos. I didn't do it my first time printing with them and the prints were very dark (most monitors are very bright). The process for downloading the photo files is easy and to the point and the prints are ready when promised.

As an aside, one time there was a glitch in the printing process (it was Costco's fault). The person behind the counter apologized, sent through the photos again, asked me to come back in about 30 minutes, and they gave me 5 prints of everything I ordered that day, which was great because I matted and framed them and gave them as Christmas presents that year!

Go into Costco.com, look for the photo site, register and look @ the details, instructions and "how to". You can pick up the order or have it mailed to you. I've used them for years and know of a professional that uses them.

They don't have to be jpegs. Png, tiff, bmp, also work, just less than 50mb. You can turn off auto color correction in your user profile if desired, otherwise they will color correct for you. Like everything at Costco, you can return anything for any reason.

Costco does make it easy. Send the images by internet, and the prints are ready the same, or the next day.
The quality is as good as I need.

Sounds like everyone has missed your question and just keep rattling on.

In fact you CAN get the printer profile from your local Costco. It is different for each printer and location. Simply go to the Photo department there and ask about where to get the profile and how to install it. They may have to refer you to the manager . . but that is OK. They are all very easy to talk to and more than willing to help. They may have to give you a different profile for 2 or three different printers, depending on the size of the prints you will be ordering.
Hope that helps . . .

If someone asks about filters . . . and you don't use filters . . . why would you respond with information on a flash gun?????

I can understand that not everyone uses printer profiles, but they really should stay out of the conversation if that is the case. The good lord gave us two ears and one mouth so we could listen twice as much as we talk.

Flash gun, no, using Costco, yes.
You mean like when someone asks about choosing between camera A or B and someone says buy C???

(Do you nail every post across all the boards for not being 100% congruous?)

And a brain so we don't have to be hyper-critical about everything.
