This is not really Post-processing question, but how do you make a photo file smaller?

I just now got a Photoshop and Lightroom subscription, after many, many years of resisting...
But my files from my new Olympus OM-D E-M5 II are too big (I'm capturing both RAW and LN), to even post here. I can't find any menu to reduce a copy of a jpg to a smaller file, without cropping?

Is there a way to do it?

I know I have to buy books now, and google stuff...

Thanks for someone's help. Everyone at UHH are the nicest in the world.

Under the "image" tab is a "resize" option in the drop down menu.

This how explains how and why. At the bottom of the discussion are screen print examples: Recommended resizing parameters for digital images

Oh, is the image menu is only in Photoshop, not Lightroom?
I made a copy of 1 jpg, it says it's 91 Meg, and now after resizing, it's 3.1 Megabytes? I thought UHH limit was 2 MB.
Really, I'm not stupid, this is all new to me...

I'm assuming you mean to reduce the size after it's on your computer, from within your photo processing program: I'm not familiar with Photoshop or Lightroom, but fundamentally there are two ways to reduce size without cropping: Resizing to a smaller pixel size (e.g., from 4000 x 3000 pixels to 2000 x 1500 pixels -- User ID already posted how to do this), and increasing the JPG compression level (e.g., from 95% to 75%), which would reduce the quality of the image. Your programs should have options to do either, or both. The above numbers are just examples, not recommendations.
Good luck.

Check on Faststone Resize. Its sole purpose in life is to make you happy.... $0
you have your choice of short side, long side, pix, % etc... will also do batches

"got a Photoshop and Lightroom subscription, after many, many years of resisting" alas masochism has won!! One bucket full of useful, two buckets full of stuffing that few use. Check on Affinity, it is powerful and only $50 one time for a lifetime.. excellent. Trial downloads are available. Many tutorials.

Oh no. I feel sick. Adobe just took over tens of thousands of photos today and put them on their creative cloud... I will suffer the $10.61/month. I got a "deal."

On my Win 7 (& prev version) machines I use a Windows power toy called image resizer. Works nicely and becomes part of the right-mouse click file options.
Not sure if it works in Win 10 though.

Without resizing but when you save it as JPEG with maximum compression the file isn't too big.

Use Lightroom, and when you export your photos to your computer (or to an external drive), specify .jpg and scroll down to the size menus to change the size of the file you are saving.

Thanks, but I only use Apple's MacBook Pro's, iPad Pro's (I just got the latest 12.9 inch iPad Pro 256GB Nov 2018 version), my iPhone 7. I have 2 - 2013 MacBook Pro notebook computers, with the latest operating software. I used to use Hewlett Packard Notebook computers, but their reliability stinks, in my opinion, and I have used reverse-Polish-notation HP scientific calculators since the mid-1980's, so I love HP.

Oh, the UHH limit is 20MB! Now I can figure this out. I've been reading about my new camera too much last night and today...

That's why I stated my OS. I did not know which one you used.
