My camera takes photos of 6000 X 4000 pixels. That is way more than my monitor (actually video card) can display (1152 X 864). I suspect the OP has the same thing and is viewing full size.

You can use the picture editing software that comes with Windows, and I'm relatively sure that a Mac will have similar software, that you can use to resize the pics to your satisfaction.

My take on the original question was that the file physical size was slowing down the computer. The display size would not change that. I'd be looking for data bottlenecks from A to B (or once in B).
