As with other posters I also have fond memories of those great round engine sounds. (Kinda wish the music was toned down some.) I grew up in between a couple airfields during the '40s (born in the '30s) where the planes were repaired and sent back to battle in the European and Asian theaters. I'd be playing with my toy soldiers in the sandbox and an aircraft would fly over so low on their runway approach that I could see their damage and sometimes even the pilots.
We would occasionally find oil splotches in our yard from leaking engines too.
Never wanted to fly one of those rattletraps with one of the propellers sometimes not turning though.
Remember seeing a door hanging off the side of a large aircraft and wondering if anyone had fallen out.
Being part of this phase in our history did instill in me the the desire to help out whenever I could. Really admired those pilots - had a female cousin that ferried aircraft to various bases around the world. She was a hero in our family but certainly didn't take any honor in our hearts away from those family members who never returned.
As with other posters I also have fond memories of... (show quote)

tommy2, that must have been something to see as a youngster. Those Girls did a really big job during that war. They never did get all the credit they deserved. Glad you liked the video.

All I can say is: WOW!!!!! What a staggering display of WWI and WWII warbirds. Sorry about your friend, but he did leave quite a legacy for future generations to watch! thank you.
Rich...

I wish I had been there to see that one in person. My friends name was John Cheraso. He flew an Albatros Air Sea Rescue Plane sometime after the Korean War. He was quite a guy and a really great friend; He is really missed. When He would get to Dayton every year for the Trade Show during Our Airshow He would always bring patches, and pins , and mementos from all the places He had been since the year before. He would always come to the house at least two evenings while He was in town and after the airshow closed for the day and My Wife, Carolyn, would always have a big pot of barbecued ribs ready and We would always eat too much. After that if John had the energy We would go out in the garage to my shop and work on radio controlled airplanes. I miss those days.

To see one of the Duxford airshows is worth all the time and penny to get there. It's not only the flying part, but the many static displays and museums that are on the property. And not far away is the American military cemetery near Cambridge. And don't forget you're in 8th Army Air Force country also.

I would love to see that sometime, but I guess I'll stay thankful for youtube since I'm on the wrong side of the "Pond". My Wife used to live in England when She was 11 or 12. Her Dad was in the Air Force. She always talked about Germany and Sweden, and Her favorite Airplane at the Airbase in England, the B-52.

Very cool. We have a number of air shows around California. Been to one in Upland, CA. But that one in your video is really scaled up! One of my adult ed photo school classmates is on the board of the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, CA. We got a behind the scenes tour. They have airshows too but I have not been to that one.

Amazing how they restore and keep flying those old plane from WWII and earlier! My Father-In-Law served on a B-17D.

There are a lot of WWII restored Aircraft in California. Really like to go to Chino sometime, a lot of stuff to see there. I used to work with a guy at Wright-Patterson AFB that was a B-17 Pilot, but He didn't talk about it a lot. I had an Uncle who flew a C-46 Commando cargo plane over "The Hump" during WWII. I'm not sure, but I think the Hump might have been just before WWII. Glad you liked the video.

This year the show is over the weekend of 13th / 14th July. Notifications and Tickets (when available) here.
There is usually a You Tube / Vimeo presentation for each year. And they're all worth watching.

There's a link to the 2018 video on front page. Worth a watch.
