Here are a few of this Autumns unusual small birds that have made its way to E. Lyme. Red-breasted Nuthatch, Pine Siskin, Purple Finch. On average I only see them about once every ten years or so and only for a day or two when they are traveling through Ct. This is called an irruption, and is a dramatic, irregular migration of large numbers of birds to areas where they aren’t typically found, possibly at a great distance from their normal ranges.
