Canon at #4 ... so completely biased

What is probably more troubling to the fanboys is that both Nikon and Canon have jumped above Sony's highest entry ...

Well that makes me 😁!

So far enjpying many things about the Z6. Less enjoyable is that my Lightroom does not, and apparantly never will, accept Z6 RAW files. And the Snapbridge App is a disaster.

Nor do I like the price of xqd cards or the fact that Nikon has worked out a way to reject my after market batteries, forcing me to buy an overpriced spare Nikon.

Compared to my D800 I like the lighter weight, fabulous EVF, and much improved control approach using (tilting) touch screen, iso button, mode dial, readable top screen, two programmable function buttons and three U settings. The adapter works fine with my AF-S lenses, although the 24-70 lens makes my 24-85 redundant and it does not have a screw focus drive making my AF 50 mm unusable with autofocus.

Of course they are biased because they don’t share your bias!

The attacks on the Nikon Zs from the Sony crowd were leigon.

The more recent reviews are doing better at balanced reviews. But since they use different criteria they will always be biased: towards their criteria.

And none of them address my most important criteria.

Everyone has an opinion, all have one thing in common...none are totally unbiased even the ones that are unsponsored. You have a bias...I have a bias...its impossible not to have one.

The thing to do is stop letting others think for you and decide for yourself.

My camera is #1 because its the only one I have.

"my Lightroom does not, and apparently never will, accept Z6 RAW files."

That is only true if you don't use current CC versions. Even if you use old versions, Adobe gives you a free conversion tool.

About a week ago, Adobe released a (beta) DNG converter that covers the Z 6, so ANY version of ANY Adobe product can use Nikon RAW files. Since the DNG converter got it, a Lightroom Classic CC update will follow within weeks.

Of course we are all biased. I'm becoming a Fuji X-Pro2 fan after buying a Fuji X100T for my wife. I need to get the weight down from my Pentax APS-C cameras to APS-C Fuji hybrid EVF / OVF digital rangefinder cameras. If I really wanted a FF I would have bought a Pentax K-1 or K-1ii. But it is 2.2 lbs!

I prefer Primes to Zooms (but do own several zoom lenses).

B&W film to color film.

Yes, I have Lightroom 6 and Photoshop CS6 and they have made them ineligable for ACR updates.

Yes, I have the DNG converter. It is a PITA, requiring two extra steps. Three if you use the usb transfer because the computer doesn’t take xqd cards. My xqd adapter finally came, changing that step.

While I hate it I might succumb to the subscription when it handles the Z6 RAW. Meanwhile I’ll shoot jpeg for a while.

Don't hate the subscription. Look at what more you might get. If that's not apealing, move beyond Adobe.

There is always two parts to getting images into LR. One is transfering the files to your computer. The other is importing (registering) those files in LR. Use the DNG converter for the first part and LR for the second. LR will do both steps for you. But, total time will be about the same if you do it manually. You can keep LR6 and edit your Nikon mirrorless files.

I differ on the suggestion that Adobe actively dictated a product "ineligible". Looking forward, Adobe needed to offer new tools beyond the capability of the single product. So. they stopped upgrading it to focus on building a system of connected parts. The new system needs four parts. Lightroom 6 was a single part. The new system connects Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC, Photoshop and some cloud storage. Also included are Portfolio and Bridge.

One example is that I needed to post a snapshot on a forum. I took the shot, it worked its way through the cloud to my copy of LR Classic on my computer where I adjusted it and "slid" it to the forum page. If I was not home, I could have used any computer to do it because of the interconnections.

If all you need or enjoy is single image, stand alone slider adjustment process, the Adobe offering is beyond that. It is not for you! Lots of UHH members are finding lots of alternatives that are getting better than Adobe's old stand alone LR 6.

Even Adobe will give you a single image slider adjustment tool for free. It is called "Adobe Photoshop Express".

The DNG converter version 11.1 you need for the Z 6 is here: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/dng-converter-11-1-beta-with-preliminary-camera-support-for-various-models

LR has taken My Z7 Raws from day one. Why do you say they "never will" take Z6 raws?

Because I have Lightroom 6 and they have locked it out it from future ACR updates.

Thank you. But as I noted I have it. It works but adds steps.

Thomas Heaton a YouTube landscape photographer of some note, recently announced that he was ending his 18 year relationship with Canon due to his extreme disappointment with the EOS-R. He felt that Canon had the opportunity to take the lead with Mirrorless and flubbed it. His next landscape video, in the Peaks District of the UK, had him using a Nikon D850 with a Nikkor 70-200 lens.
