Refurbished cameras and the stuff that goes with them

I am a big proponent of refurbished equipment. My rule is that I always buy from the manufacturer. You never know who refurbished the camera when you buy it from a camera store. Canon warrants their refurbished equipment for an entire year, the same as their "new" equipment. Nikon warrants it for 90 days. Good luck and stay away from the "bundles".

Haven't yet purchased "refurbished", but wondered if they included all of the items that are normally part of a New camera purchase ie manuals, cables , etc.

Haha, isn't that the first rule of parenting???

stay away from Cameta, look into KEH or MPB out of new York

The one lens she has is an AFS lens (18-135). So now that brings up another question. Is it better to get the 7200 with the motor drive? Or doesn't it matter if she'll probably only be using newer lenses?

Thanks to all who replied! And thanks, Jerry. Using your link, I see I missed the body-only when I looked at Cameta earlier.

The D7500 does have the built in AF motor. What it doesn't have is the AI aperture follower so it can't meter with manual focus lenses but that shouldn't be a problem for you or your daughter.

I have the D7500 and it has wonderful image quality, higher ISO friendly, and weather sealed. She will be a happy gal (and you too) with this camera. I have had mine going on 2 years without any issues at all. Marry Christmas to your daughter!

I've dealt with Cameta a number of times and received first class service. I bought my last Nikon refurbished body from them, and wouldn't hesitate do it again.

Depends on the store. Adorama and B&H both sell manufacturer refurbished. However, I understand the Nikon refurbished do not always come with a warranty as along as they give on new cameras. So you might want to check the warranty as well as the "who" refurbished question.

My experience with Cameta Camera is that they sell factory refurbished Nikon’s. They also add 9 months warranty to the Nikon 90 day warranty. However, I have never needed warranty coverage in the first year of ownership of a factory refurbished.

All the bits and pieces are included with factory refurbished Nikon cameras.

Just curious, why do you say “stay away from Cameta”? I have had excellent service from them, even having them locate a factory refurbished Nikon camera from them for a gift, when they had none listed on their website.

You need to defend your statement about Cameta. While I have not done business with them myself, I know a lot of UHHers have and report positive experiences.

What specifically bothers you about Cameta? My experience with them is all positive and as satisfying as KEH, B&H, Adorama, and MPB.

I have bought 3 factory refurbs from Cameta. 2 Olympus & 1 Nikon. All had extended warranties on them and all had the basic items that come with any newly bought camera...I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone...

I'm buying my daughter a refurb Nikon D7500 for Christmas. It was either that or the D7200 but since I already have one, I figured get her the 7500 and then I can use it. Rule #1 of gift-giving. Get people stuff that YOU also want, so you can borrow it.

She has an older camera already so she has a lens. I wouldn't need a lens to go with it for now but she'd need a better one in the future.

My question is: Cameta has a lot of refurb 7500's but they are all different prices and come with different "accessories". Are the cameras in all the different kits relatively the same quality (ie: shutter clicks) and they just throw other stuff in there? Or if the camera has more clicks, do they add more accessories to it? I know some come with a lens, but some do not. And the prices are all close.

Would it matter which refurb kit I get, or would I just decide based on the accessories if the cameras themselves are all about equal? Am I making sense?
I'm buying my daughter a refurb Nikon D7500 for Ch... (show quote)

Take a look here also. KEH is a very reputable company and is offering a one year warranty on everything for the rest of the year. The code LN- means the camera in like new and the EX+ is better than excellent. I have bought several cameras from them and even the ones labeled bargain work flawlessly and cost a whole lot less $$$.
The only refurbs I would consider are those done by the manufacturer.

Merry Christmas
