I found the hike to Delicate Arch much easier than expected. But it was cold and VERY windy at the top. Arches is so beautiful.

Thanks for looking. We found that hike to the viewpoint to see the Arch from below was easy, but the hike to the top next to the Arch took about 2 hours, most of which was up.

Yes, it's up, but not a steep up and the footing is good.

Very fine images, Mike. (Though I confess to being biased...) What I find equally intriguing, though, is that while you were visiting Arches --and for that matter, while you were visiting the other parks on your trip--, it wasn't gray and nasty and raining like the weeks previous and the week afterward. Is the sunshine you brought something you just naturally do, or is it a skill you've taken the time to perfect over the years?

A fun fact for you, Mike: The hike to Delicate Arch is 1.5 miles long. The hike from Delicate Arch back to the parking lot is a lot further. As well, one gains 480 feet of elevation over the course of hiking up to the arch, and mysteriously, roughly double that elevation is gained while returning to the vehicle. Or so say some who've hiked to Delicate Arch and back.

Being lucky is better than being good because it works all the time.

There you go, Jim, letting facts get in the way of a good story.

I have held off posting shots from the Arches portion of the Mighty Five trip because Cany 143 is the definitive source for photos of that area. I do, however, post these to show potential visitors the world of photo ops that await you from a tour van with little (except for Delicate Arch) hiking involved. As to Delicate Arch, unlike its name, the hike to the arch (as opposed to the viewpoint of the arch) is labeled by the Park Service as strenuous and this 80 year old agrees with them. The shots are posted in the order that they occurred as we spent the day going into the park, circling through and coming out. I am sorry that I do not remember all the names of the formations, etc.
I have held off posting shots from the Arches port... (show quote)
