I broke it! Help.
Those blades are only to cover the lens when not in use. If the camera works without any obstructions, you shouldn't have any problems.
I had a pocket camera that something had pushed the lens cover blades and bent them a little so they would only close half way. I was able to use my pocket knife to gently lift the bent ones so that they worked properly again. Hope your problem was as easy as mine. Good luck.
ThankYou Everybody for your responses.
I figured I would learn most everything I need to know right here on the UHH. Considering this camera is at least 3 years old, if not older, warranty is out of the question. And it looks like Canon considers these cameras to be throw-a-ways. It would probably cost more to fix than it is worth. I guess the next thing is to see if I can get the leaves disconnected and out of the way. I see there is a spring that helps to operate the leaves as the lens extends and contracts. I guess is time to get out the model building tools and magnifiers and see what I can do.
Thanks again.
My Canon SX60 was purchased in 2015 for a trip to Phuket, Thailand. This year we returned to Thailand with the same camera (and a couple more small cameras) but it went bonkers from a little rain/lots of sweat climbing to the top of The Tiger Temple in Krabi. I sent the camera into Canon along with $109 (or so) and they sent me a new replacement. It never hurts to see what they can do for you. I refused work done on my 7D since it was more than it was worth...
