Please stop with the patriotic BS. When the government taxes me and spends it wisely I will agree. While they stiIl piss it away without accountability I disagree.

Yes. Sales tax is collected by the states. Then it can be divided where the state, counties, and other municipalities get a piece of it. So, it not only varies from state to state, but there can also be different rates within a state.

The feds have excise taxes on a lot of products, but they are kind of hidden unless you look for them. One example is that just about anything connected with fishing has a 'hidden' tax (in addition to sales tax) from your boat to your smallest hook.

Same with firearms and ammunition. Huge revenue is generated for the federal government from firearms sales and ammunition sales.

I am not so sure taxes aren't the invention of politicians. Taxes near the turn of the century (1900) were non existent. Then the politicians decided THEY needed income to run the country. Imagine, the country did fine without taxes and most folks were able to save a hefty amount of their earnings. I don't believe it is a matter of "man-up".

I think we fought a war over taxes some time around 1776. That predates 1900.

It would appear mankind was doomed or should I say nearly doomed. In today's society, more trash, more waste is created because of overuse. If you think it proper to "man-up", why not charge a deposit on everything sold, in order to monetize and encourage re use?

We should get rid of the sanitation department and those workers; and then your point about overuse and waste would really make sense.
Dirty, trashy, filthy, diseased streets would certainly make people think twice about excessive consumption.

If Sales Tax is a deal breaker for you, you don't need it. Avoid paying sales tax by not buying the new Canon.

Exactly
Not a breaker, just if I pay it on line or to a local store. We PAY our taxes here in Il. Sorry for this post! Didn't think It would be such a big deal. I will always stick / B&H. I don't need the Canon, but I'm getting it!!!!!

B&H also sent out a message to customers a couple of weeks ago informing them of the requirement. The Wayfair ruling also impacted many beyond the internet retailers and allows states to implement these rules on everyone shipping product into the respective state. I work for a company that manufactures tile and delivers nationwide. It appears that even though we will not have a physical presence in most states or even a connection via an employee that lives there, we will have to begin collecting and remitting sales or use tax to 46 different states. This puts a huge burden on many companies and increases total cost to consumers but it does benefit the states and hopefully can revive local businesses.

Trump believes in tax avoidance.
Let others pay for schools, roads, FEMA, military, public works, clean water and air, police and fire protection , social security, Medicare, and all those other strange entitlements.

Please keep in mind he is not doing anything illegal. He is simply taking advantage of the tax laws as they are written. All smart business people do this. It is not Trump's fault, it is the fault of our legislators.

There is accountability. It is when we got them into office.

Nothing patriotic about it. If everybody stopped paying their taxes you would probably the first to complain about lack of services.

You must realize that by not paying taxes you are hurting your neighbors. If you don't like how the money is spent, get involved with your local government and work your way up. It's an old saying, but if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Not paying taxes because you don't like the way it is spent is a excuse, not a reason.

I want to contribute to my country with a fair amount of taxes. But the game has been gamed and
we have forms that nobody can comprehend. Rules like real estate companies can avoid taxes.
Schools are starved by states. Infrastructure for our roads, bridges, waterways coasts has been
ignored. I now live FL. Lived and owned business in PA for years. Did a lot of good in PA. Mentored
young peoples careers. Worked for charities like the homeless. Paid my state taxes.
The State of PA decided to hire a Texas law company to collect money any way the could from
citizens. I recieved a bill in collection from the state for $38,000 for not missing S Corporation
tax return 7 years after. The return is a report no payment is involved. They had decided to reclassify
me and some they had this corrupt company attack business people in PA. For many years we tried
to get rid of this bogus claim. Every few years it came back. It is gone now. Maybe.
State legislatures that have become disfunctional political monsters. Just look at Education.

Tax avoidance is NOT illegal--I know that. Legislators are self serving as well.
Still, millions of dollars.

If Trump 'is simply taking advantage of the tax laws' why won't he release his tax returns? It is probably not because of his tax dodges. Its because he doesn't want the public to know his whole 'empire' is backed by Russian Oligarch funny money.
