I was going to order the Canon 7d mark11. I see that they are now charging tax. This is the first I've noticed, that. However, looks like Adorama doesn't yet. Since both are closed for Phone orders today, Anyone else notice this?

Thanks SENSORLOUPE

They don't CHARGE tax; they now collect it for the states - per new laws. See:

B&H added Washington State to the sales tax collection list about two weeks ago.

It does make a change. For me, one item is ink cartridges. Amazon was faster but 10% more due to tax. I only replace cartridges when they are almost out and order only the ones I need. Amazon being quicker will now get my business.

The other place will be cameras. Near is a wonderful store called Kenmore Camera. They were always 10% more due to tax. $100 on a $1000 camera was meaningful. I will likely buy my next camera from them when and if I decide I want one.

The laws are starting to change for online shopping, many have to collect tax depending on the state that they have to ship to.

Yes. I have a camera store near (only1 left) I may as well buy from them as long as I am paying tax. Bummer!

Sensorloupe - Do you understand the reason for taxes? It goes to support your the local infrastructure of your community. The aging facilities that everybody beefs about but nobody wants to shell out money to repair. Man up!!
Pay your fair share and everybody in your vicinity wins! The State of Wisconsin requires any “unpaid tax” to be calculated and ultimately paid when I file my income tax, so I never actually got a break when B&H, Adorama, Amazon, etc., were not accounting for it as they should have been.

I think a lot of folks misunderstand what it means to live in the land of the free.

It never meant you get a free ride.

B&H collecting state sales taxes varies widely by the specific state being shipped to. If that state has a law that says B&H, or other internet sellers, MUST collect their sales tax, then the new laws obligate them to do so. Not all states have passed such laws yet, but over time they all will follow suit. The only states that will avoid such charges are those states that do not have sales taxes, or those that may choose not to pass such laws.

The case of South Dakota vs. Wayfair solidified the law. It puts all internet retailers in the same position as local sellers when it comes to taxes, making all buyers pay their fair share to support their states (and local) services!
