Bummer--- but I did something real stupid, if this helps. I traveled from Chicago to New York for a total photo trip, and when I went to unpack, I had forgotten my import cord and my battery recharger and spare battery.

At least I was able to replace them.

But you live in Wasilla-- so you've got heaps of opportunity to get back out there. And who knows-- maybe that fog over the lake might be a bit more eerie.

I am hoping I can do a repeat, but next time with the card in the camera. And who knows what it'll look like then.

It's slower than a reader. Life is full of disasters and mistakes. While I do not desire them, I always learn from them. Forgetting a card, ... missing photos is not the end of the world. Letting it consume me is the end of the world. I left a card out on three different occasions while on a recent river cruise on the Danube. I forgave myself within a brief amount of time. I'm still here and happy!! I wish I did not and regret doing it, but my life is still intact.

I never remove my SD card. I use the USB connection and download directly from the camera, same with my video cameras. Reading about the "no card" disasters, I wonder why more people don't use the USB connection.

The good part is that I get to do it again!! Life moves on, as you say.

Lucky for me the only time I left the primary card out of the camera the secondary took over. Captured everything. Happy shooting.

Been there, done that. However (ta da!), my Nikon D7200 takes two cards. The only damage is that what was intended to be a backup card in case the first card filled or fail, did indeed serve its purpose as a backup card.

I forgot a different twist on this subject. The night before I was to leave for a photo day trip I put my battery in the charger. Next morning grabbed the camera and gadget bag. When I went to take pictures Nothing. Battery was back home in the charger. thank goodness I had an extra in the bag.

The lesson learned here is to have and carry spares (batteries, cards) and try not to forget you card in the card reader!! Or the battery in the external charger. i suppose this could be considered a challenge.

I learn my lessons well, but until they replace the brain, I may still forget something.

Higher end Canon & Nikon DSLR's have two slots. Both of my Canon DSLR's do. It is a very nice feature.

As did my D7200. My A6300 just has one, inconveniently accessed from the bottom in the battery compartment. I don't know why they couldn't have put it in the side of the hand grip like they did for the A7xx series.
