Maximize your image quality, shoot JPEG, and use the variable 1.1-2X Clear Image Zoom buried in the menus - you loose no pixels - will get you to 270mm.

Otherwise, look at the Canon 70-300 IS II nano with the Sigma MC11 adapter.

If you can afford it go for the Sony FE 70‑200mm F/4.0 G OSS or if you need longer go for the FE 70-300 F4.0 G OSS. They will feel a bit unbalanced on an A6500 but still manageable.
The Sony E 55-210mm is another option. It is light and inexpensive. IQ won't be as good as the other two, but you are more likely to have it with you. If you are happy with your 18-135, you should be OK with the 55-210

I have he 18-105 f4 and want to add the 70-200 f4.
That might be a solution for you if you are willing to go with two lenses.
There is also a 24-240mm FE lens but I don't know anything about it, quality wise.

I have the Sony e-mount 18 - 200mm lens. The only time I have to do anything with a lens is if I attach the Sony E-Mount 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 10x High Definition 2 Element Close-Up (Macro). Easy-peasy and works for me.

I like the Sony 18-105 f4 on mine. It's lightweight and compact and the zoom range is adequate for my use.

Here is an interesting review and comparison of 2 popular lenses you might be interested in. It just showed up on the forum.

The 24-240 is a very good lense ( my walk around). With Clear Image, it gets you close to 500. It is a full frame lense, so if you ever upgrade, the lense will stay with you

I use the Sony 18-250 and love it. I already want one of the Tamron 18-400 lenses when they make it for the Sony.

I'd be real interested in the Sony 18-250, didn't know they made it, but sold my tamron 18-400. It was an amazing lens, but when you want the 400 in a long view, it really falls down. Why have a 400 that you can't use. But for relatively short views at 400, it does fine. It's great everywhere else, and acts like it's an F2.8. (which it isn't) But it's a big semi heavy lens that would be perfect if the 400 worked like it should.
