Nope. Whatever happened when I downloaded the program, it also disabled system restore

As Peterff suggested, time to contact the purveyor of the program to assist you with Corel. There may be quick turnaround to the problem, hopefully.

I have used Corel for years, many years without the slightest glitch. I have also had the "thrilling" experience with the Geek Squad. All I will say to that is: beware the 3rd party pretenders. Geek squad is, IMHO, the worst bunch of pirates sailing their incompetant nonsense everywhere they are. Bottom line: Corel good, Geek bad.

I bought some gear from Adorama last week. When it arrived, there was a free copy of several Corel products (Photo-Video-Art Suite). I decided to check it out and downloaded it with the Keys provided. I began with Paint Shop Pro X9. As soon as I opened it, my display went nuts. The display had an identical double image, one clear on top, the other was a hazy, greyed out version of the upper, but it partially covered the upper images. There were two cursors. I deleted the program with great difficulty (it was nearly impossible to click on things since many selections were impossible to differentiate and then deciding which of the two cursors were effective). That didn't solve the problem. I then ran REVO uninstalled which searches for left over strings concealed in files. Again, no help. Finally, a trip to the Geek Squad and a full wipe of the hard drive and re installation of Windows 10 got it resolved. I suggest you consider installing these products carefully before putting them on your computer (this was an HP laptop). I lost all of my files including a boat load of photos that had not yet been backed up. I'll never look at Corel again, free or otherwise.

As others have already said Corel is a good product. I've been using Corel for abot 20 years and nevet had a problem. I have messed up a purchase from time to time over the years and found their customer service to be excellent. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Hello,

Sorry to hear about the terrible problems you experienced. It maybe worth contacting HP directly. They usually have locations you can bring your computer to directly. I know you already took your computer to Geek Squad. I never used Geek Squad. I did hire someone who once claimed he worked for Geek Squad at one time. I only know this person scared me and could not wait to get rid of them. He even claimed his fee was double what we had agreed upon. I don't know what kind of malware and antivirus you have you have. This is another thing to check on. Make sure you have all the updates. I also would contact Adorama and let them know what happened. I do thing contacting HP directly may be your best course.

Good Luck!

As a person that repairs computers , I agree with TBerwick . Someone like me could of saved your files . Sorry for your loss . .. I have not had any problems with Corel products either . I agree , system restore whether you are using windows 7 - 8 - 10 a lot times doesn't work when you need it the most . I've always said , what a joke when you try to use system restore and it doesn't work .

My experience is different.
I currently use Paint Shop Pro X9.
Have used many previous versions over the years.
I buy directly from Corel.
I don't pay a monthly fee. Don't remember Corel ever asking for a monthly fee.
I pay a little extra to get the program delivered on a hard disc.
Only problems I have, are operator problems......
I plan to keep using to keep using Paint Shop Pro.
Pat

Amen, I'm using PSP 2018, used PSP x8 & 9 before I go back to X4, never a problem, no monthly fee, Bob.

Odd. It would be nice to know what caused that. I know people here use Corel products. The only one I use is WordPerfect, and every time I close it, I get a pop-up to upgrade. : )

The problem with Geek Squad, and other services like them, is that they usually don't try to save files prior to wiping your computer.

I've heard that from many people who've had their computers "repaired" at various places. Wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS is fast and easy. A friend had ransomware on his computer, and the shop said he had to buy a new computer! And he did!

It will not work if you don't first save a restore point.

Always before making any changes or adding or deleting software set a restore point.

Check to see if your anitivirus and malware providers have had any company changes. I don't mean updates. I mean changes within the company itself.

Go and check out current reviews. A few years ago I had a nightmare and was due to my antivirus software. It was a randsome ware type of situation.

Between my regular IT person and Dell I must have spent $700.00 to get the problem fixed.

Even after I changed to another anitivirus I had phony people spamming me. I kept getting phony telephone calls from people claiming to be from my former antivirus software. They would say they were receiving messages from my computer that there was a problem. One day I received 18 phone calls and I finally had to change me phone number.
