Hello there... I want to sell the camera but, need some guidance. I just move from USA to Spain, and a few months before I bought it to replace the Nikon D3s that I had as I switched brands.
Was a huge investment, and now I don’t think is justified. I can manage with the other two bodies that I have.
My question is, the camera is brand new, maybe 50 shots when I got it, but pretty sure the warranty won’t work in Europe. Need your honest help giving it a price, and if any of you can tell me where to post it for sale. Don’t know if living in Europe now, allows me to sell here. Thanks and have a great day!!!

There is a poster in the buy-sell looking for the camera you have. Maybe y’all can work something out. Think his add is the 4th one Down.

FYI, I have purchased a lens out of Europe, it was no problem, shipping took a little longer but I had no problems bringing the lens into the US. Because of the value of your camera you may face import taxes that I did not face on my $600 purchase, I don't know exactly how that works.

I have the invoice from USA. I bought it there. They shouldn’t charge any taxes. Thanks for the info anyway:)

Unfortunately it will only be worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
I doubt that the warranty is transferable unless you have not registered it for the warranty online or by sending in the card.
You may take a loss on this one.
Good Luck...

Best,
Todd Ferguson

This not a grey market item, and you seem to have the purchase documentation. Canon will repair it if needed, although it is unlikely to need it. At worst a repair would have to be paid for, or the camera would have to be repaired in the US under warranty. I would suggest calling Canon for advice.

Thanks for the advice. It’s been registered, and for experience I know that those are transferable when the article has been registered. It’s not otherwise. Anyway, if I get the price they I want ($5,000) I will sell it, if not, I will keep it...:) it’s brand new as I said, original package, and I can send it to the States again with my husband whose going there at the end of July if anyone is interested... have a great day everyone, and thanks for your comments :)

Be aware that however great this camera is, it is the older model and realistically, you are not going to find many buyers at the price you want. A Canon refurbished 1DX is listed at under $4250.00 while the 1DXII is $4800.00, both with the full 1 year warranty on the Canon USA site. Additionally, the Canon site does periodic sales on refurbished listings, so the prices could be 10-15% lower at any given time. So don't be shocked by value that vanishes once you drive the new car off the lot.

Best of luck

Yes, but in Europe it IS grey market! It’s only good for one year anyway!!
Warranties are NOT transferable whether the cards are used or not. Canon uses the original sales slip in the possession of the original purchaser.

Yayi, if it’s a mkl you’ll likely be keeping it. The Mkll goes for that new!!! Good luck

Hey Sharpie, are you sure that it is considered grey market? Whether Canon will honor the warranty, especially if it is sold to another person and is not transferable is another matter isn't it?

My guidance to the the OP would be to assume it has no warranty, and has market value as can be determined on ebay sales. It is a realistic measure.

This is not an illegitimate import item, but surely only Canon can say 'Yay' or 'Nay' as regards warranty or support. As for value, for a MK I, $2K to $3K seems reasonable

I don't know if Canon Europe is the same as Canon USA...

But Canon USA will repair gray market items (Nikon won't). It is supposed to charge for the service, no warranty. But sometimes when it's a minor repair or a major, long term user, they'll do it as a warranty repair anyway.

Canon Europe will have their own set of rules, I'm sure.

Did you buy a 1DX or a 1DX II? If it's the former, I've got to wonder if a 1DX would even still be under warranty The 1DX II replaced it over two years ago (Feb. 2016).... and the 1DX was introduced in 2011, so could be as much as 7 years old now. I suppose it could be "new old stock".

Peter, yes, as soon as it's sold the warranty is gone, no matter WHAT the warranty cards say or don't. The warranty cards are not for warranty, they are just registration which can be done online without the cards. BUT any new warranty is only good for 12 months from purchase, regardless.
A USA model in Europe should be a grey marked there, unless it comes back to the USA. BUT regardless, any camera after 12 months would make no difference if it was grey or not, the warranty is gone anyway.
He never said it was a mkll.
Used with 200K+ and with light wear they are $2500+/-.
Too bad he didn't use it much. What a heavy hit to sell used at any market value.
