That's the best part. Long after the high cost has faded into the background, he'll continue to find things that work differently or don't work at all. I find it frustrating going from one machine to the other, especially with the Control, Alt, Shift, Command, and Option keys. Apple needs a PrintScreen button.

Bud,

I have had a custom desktop, many times upgraded, since 2008. I had several Dell desktops prior to that. In 2015, I purchased an ASUS laptop and configured it to match many of the components of my desktop. I use it for travel and occasional use at home. I have an Adobe subscription, LR Classic & PS CC, loaded as well as many other editing programs. It performs well. I help others with Apple products, but my own choice is Windows 10. I love it and installed it 2 weeks after Microsoft's initial release. I do not like Apple Operating Systems. I'm sure others do, but after using Windows for 30+ years, it's ingrained.

I am in the process of replacing my Dell Inspiron laptop. It originally ran on Windows 7 and was upgraded to Windows 10. My need is to do post processing with Lightroom CC Classic an d Photoshop which I have been using for quite a few years. So my question is for apple users who use LRCC classic and Photoshop. What are the advantages, if any, over a PC, and what configuration and costs.
Thanks in advance.
Bud

He wanted responses from people who had experience with Apple and Lightroom which you obviously don't have. If you watch photographer's Youtube videos by you will see that many of them are using Apple.

Bud,
Short is that Apple's MacBook Pro is superlative...their system is great. There is a lot written about this here and elsewhere. My purpose is to alert you to an unbelievable special from B&H today...only.

My only concern is the butterfly keyboard issue...if with 'your' copy. No matter, Apple stands behind their products.
If this savings is not significant for you, then research your OS choice.

I "upgraded" to Windows 10. I liked it so much I went out and bought a MacBook Pro. Never looked back.

After 23 years of PCs I switched to an iMac 2 years ago. Yes, the iMac was about 50% more expensive than a similar PC and there's a slight learning curve switching from programs like MS Word to iMac Pages (and other Apple programs) but as someone else said, all Microsoft products work on an Apple computer and Apple's version of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc. are all pretty much intuitive to run if you don't want to set your Apple system up to run Microsoft products. What I don't miss from my old PCs, are the constant glitches, lockups, updates, patches, etc., that I was required to install on my PC and which generally made the program worse, not better. My sister just had another update to Windows 10 on her laptop and it's absolutely awful. They eliminated "My Computer" and "Windows Explorer" and we couldn't even figure out how to read a flash drive so I could show her some of my photos. Microsoft has clearly never learned the KISS principle. So overall, I'm willing to pay the extra cost for an Apple product that requires updates maybe once every two years, never locks up, never gets viruses, handles all software effortlessly and is simple to operate.

On the contrary, I run Lightroom both on a PC and a Mac and have an IMac, 3 IPads and 2 IPhones as well as a host of PCs. And I don’t need to watch the UTube videos - my son teaches high school graphic design and photography, entirely on Macs. He prefers them, hence the reason I have an IMac. So I’m not unfamiliar with Macs at all, I just, in general prefer PCs for many of the reasons Gene has elaborated.

Beware of the advise of the anti Apple people who have never used one let alone a recent one. I have used Macs since 1986 and have a 15" MacBook Pro which is used daily. The people I know who have switched to Apple have never looked back or even considered it. PCs have also come a long way so you have many options. I use my Apple products as tools. Too many times a Windows machine can become a project in itself and I don't need that unless I have to use it for some work/business reason. I have even heard of people buying Apple hardware to run Windows since Apple went to Intel processors, but that seems a little over the top to me...

Best,
Todd Ferguson

I bought my MacBook Pro in 2014 and have had no problems with it, except the one I caused when I cracked the screen (my portable hard drive gave it a hard tap as I was passing the Mac to my husband). I really like having a laptop. I also worry less about viruses. Lightroom classic runs like a dream, the display is excellent. And, most importantly, it’s updated fairly frequently at no charge. I still have my PC, but it’s now just a very large paperweight. The only thing that keeps it from the grave are old tax returns.

OK - I guess you are in a unique minority.

I have both MacBooks and PC laptops. My MacBook is my primary computer while PCs gather dust. For PC-only apps, I use "Parallels Desktop"/Windows 10. I can seamlessly run both Mac & PC apps side-by-side and have the best of both worlds.

I have seen people do that with Macs but I have never had an app that was Windows only that I needed to run for my own use. I do have an older Apple desktop that I still run a CAD application on on OS9. How many people can do anything useful with a 15 year old PC...

I would not buy a Canon or a Nikon as you ca buy a camera for 1/2 the price and I would not use Adobe as you have to pay every month and they have free stuff. Now that I think of it I don't know why I take pictures I can see the without the costs and effort. So since I spent a;; this money I might bas well get a Apple Laptop (Which I did) and enjoy my self.

Apple is a good computer the Apple support is unbelievable if you have a problem so go to a Apple store and see what you want. For sure don't take my advice as I a predigest like most of us because we bought what we think is best FOR US. Just enjoy photography.

I have a lot of experience working in an environment with PC's and Macs. The performance of PCs is currently much better than Macs. Price is also much lower with PC's. The available amount of software is much smaller for Mac's. I have many titles that are only available for the PC. There are also a number of operating system tasks that windows takes care of automatically that are not so automatic in the Mac OS. Macs cause a lot of pain so much so that my employer is eliminating macs.
