I want to thank everyone for their replies. The main answer I wanted was that I didn't have to have anything longer than the 300mm. I always travel with two camera bodies as I dropped and destroyed my original Canon Mark III. Fortunately, it was the last day of our cruise and I have good insurance and the loss was covered. I prefer to take a laptop and each night I download all photos taken that day to two small SSD drives. I set up a folder for each day stating where they were shot. When I get home, I transfer the photos to two desk top hard drives although, in the process of setting up a Raid system which will also send the photos to the cloud.
We do not put anything of value in checked luggage as I have had a tripod stolen from a flight.
Thanks again,
Walt B
