Ditto, space is always a premium when traveling and definitely when flying locally in the EU. Although I always take a computer when I travel, 3 lbs.....ou can always carry a small b/up high quality camera in your pocket, no charge. I have an 18-135 that I use about 90% of the time

I use a Domke camera coat to take more gear. They don't factor or limit what can be in your coat.

I have been in Scotland. And a pro photographer friend has been sending pix from Scandinavia and England the last few weeks.
Most of all I think you need some fast lens. It is grey often, drizzling and generally cloudy. I would travel light 22 lbs is a really
heavy load for trucking around.

Good point on the back up. Another option would be to put all the little stuff in a vest under your shirt.

22 pound limit. Buy 10 memory cards and a carrier. One card for each day. Pick one camera body, leave the other one at home with the computer. Take both lenses. If you want a backup, buy a SX730HS. Small, light, great zoom. That's what I would do.
Ten memory cards!!! Holy, moly, I just cruised the Baltic, from Bergen, Norway, to Stockholm, Sweden, stopping in Denmark, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Russia, and Finland, and got all of my 463 RAW images on one 32mb card. Come on, admit it; you have stock in memory card manufacturers. I'm wise to your tricks.

I took the Hurtigruten up and down the coast of Norway - fantastic scenery even on days with an overcast. I had an 80-400mm zoom which satisfied all my shooting needs from the boat. the 300mm will probably suffice for your telephoto requirements, which will be many from the boat.

No. I would take more memory cards and skip the laptop. You will hate the weight!

No stock. Although that's not a bad idea.

My thinking is to use, or have available, one new card for every day. Ten cards and a sturdy holder wouldn't come close to the weight nor space of a computer. After all, for most people, this is probably going to be the one trip of a lifetime. My wife and I are starting to plan a similar trip to the Isles. I am not carrying a computer. I am not going to spend time downloading photos. I bought 5 32mg SD cards for $40 I will buy 5 more, and a case to carry them I in. I'll swap in a new card every day or two. Quick, easy, and light weight. I'll do everything else when we get home.

All the memory cards I have are my first backups.

I just returned from Norway and Scotland

I used my 24-70 most of the time... and then a 16-35 and a 70-200 some as well

Unless you do wildlife/birds.. you do not need longer

And on the planes in scotland and norway...8 short flights on puddle jumpers

I had a photo backpack which then never weighed

I also had a Pelican hardcase which I was allowed to gate check on very small planes

And I had a large suitcase which was max of 23 KG ...

I never had trouble with weight issues ... so dont let that fear be a limiting factor

good luck

After hauling around a backpack with 2 bodies, 4 lenses and accessories in Scotland, I vowed to reduce gear for next trip. One DSLR or MILC body, 2 lenses max, one capable of low light shooting - either a WA or UWA, and a good pocket camera are all you will need. For where you are going, I would suggest that wider is better than long zooms.

Hehe, yep! I've logged over 300 miles of hiking through the Scottish highlands, where one would have to be insane to take a second body. I always bring enough lenses to cover zoom ranges from 16-400, but have felt like chucking my 100-400 in the loch on more than one occasion. :)

My trek was three weeks through the Scottish Highlands and Hebrides Islands, and I was glad to have a second, albeit lighter, camera body with me, just in case. FYI, I took my fullframe A7RII as my main camera and my smaller and lighter APS-C A6500 as my backup. Both take E-mount lenses, and all fullframe E-Mount lenses also work fine on APS-C E-mount cameras.

You just dont go on an important trip with no backup, a second body and a second lens. You might get away with no backup camera for your entire life if you are lucky, or you might not. I once took a long trip through the Rocky Mountains with one camera and one lens. I had an unfortunate fall and there went the camera and lens, and there went all my photos for the rest of the trip. (no cell phone cameras back then). Remember, stuff happens, and not always to the other folks. The countries the OP is visiting are all coastal, and/or islands ,near water and have very changeable weather. Any modern electronic camera could suffer a failure if enough moisture gets past any weather sealing or protection.

Cheers

That's a sweet trip, but did you walk it?

Been doing it every year for 13 years now, and will do it again on Saturday. I bring at least 3 lenses, all covering different focal lengths. Tripod too. Only what's necessary.
