Battery selection should be carefully reviewed for quality, safety and reliability. There are a lot of third party brands and manufacturers that design their batteries and chargers based on cost savings only. To lower the cost, inferior material or design is the norm; cutting production cost. These can lead to safety and reliability problems; short life, overheating and even damaging the equipment. OEM batteries are designed with quality and safety to prevent these problems; safety fuses to prevent overheating/overcharging in batteries and chargers. These elements add to the cost but assures safety and reliability and longer life!

From what I've heard, Wasabi cylindrical cell DSLR batteries are OK (Canon and Nikon.) Wasabi rectangular batteries (Olympus, Panasonic, etc.) are crap.

I have two Wasabi camera batteries for my Canon T6i that I haven't used yet. Since buying them, I have read comments that off-brand batteries might damage your camera. Does anyone know if this particular brand is safe>

I've never bought a third party camera battery outright. I've gotten some when I bought a camera (new or used). One, a ProMaster, doesn't hold charge very well. Couple of Watsons started swelling and would get stuck in the body (they still fit in the grip, but I eventually dumped them). Most no-name third party batteries failed to hold charge pretty quickly.

I only buy OEM. They last a long time, and worry free use is worth the premium to me.

You might get lucky and not have any problems. Assess the risk.

Oh, buying some new ones for a flexible charger that will work off a car battery, USB or solar charger for a big trip is a worthwhile risk.

I have always used off brand batteries, in back up to the one that came with each of my cameras. Never had a problem with camera damage, nor the off brand working as well as the original.

OEM brands like Sony, Nikon, canon photography equipment usually include battery chargers for their cameras with AC and DC 12volt chargers. In foreign countries, be sure the vehicles has 12volt DC outlets available. Most DC outlets operate with the ignition ON using the key to power the outlet. The only alternative is to buy an external power inverter with rechargeable battery packs that can recharge the camera batteries. Have a nice trip/ great picture-taking!!!
