I have two Wasabi camera batteries for my Canon T6i that I haven't used yet. Since buying them, I have read comments that off-brand batteries might damage your camera. Does anyone know if this particular brand is safe>

I've been using this brand in my Canon cameras and have had no problem what so ever. T3i, 7D, and now 80D....Rich

Wasabi is a reputable brand. Have ZERO fear about using them.

I also use them in a variety of cameras and camera brands.

The only problem you might find is that they do not last as long as they claim to. Still, having an extra battery to use while charging the OEM is always nice.

I’ve used Wasabi batteries for several different cameras and they work as good as and sometimes better than the OEM battery that came with the camera.

GES -- I have a Sony's. An XDCam pro camcorder, a7sII, had a7s ,a6000, a6300, RX10 III bridge had the Sony's in the last years.
I read a videographer I trust on the net and a few others. And Wasabi is their go to battery. All my camera's have a few Sony batteries
that are really expensive. And I have had the Wasabi's for years. A bag of them. Also have bigger battery for camcorder works great.
Their are an army of other chinese battery brands dont know which are OK. Google research might help. Just look at Amazon.

Thanks to all. I feel much better abot using the Wasabi now. I dont remember the specific source for the battery comment but I don;t think it mentioned any specific name brands. Thanks again. GES

What you read may have been true at one time but rarely applies today. Previous types of batteries used in cameras and other electronic gear often leaked when they failed. That's not a problem with Li-Ion batteries. Off-brand batteries, often built more cheaply, tended to leak more often. Li-Ion failures are usually just a matter of not holding a charge. Sometimes they will swell and be hard to remove. Some types will occasionally catch fire, usually while charging. Haven't heard of that happening much with camera batteries. All-in-all, Li-Ion seem to be more reliable and trouble free then previous types. So long as you are using batteries from a reputable manufacturer, such as Wasabi, I wouldn't worry about it. Canon and Nikon don't make their own batteries. They buy them from an outside supplier. Could be Wasabi, for all any of us know.

Use these as backups for my branded batteries. Never had a problem, though some cameras might not show accurate power level, but never any damage.

I use Nikon, Canon, Olympus ans Sony cameras. I use Wasabi, BM, Kapaxan, and Vivitar batteries and charging kits. No problems. I have $aved hundreds of dollars over camera branded back-ups and replacements.

Maybe its me, but I have been unable to use anything other than OEM Canon batteries in my Canon 80D. All the other Canon cameras I have had have performed as they should with non-OEM batteries, never had an issue. If cost is not an issue go with OEM, if it is, don't.

I bought 2 Wasabi batteries for my Canon 5D mk4 because they are so much cheaper than the Canon brand. I believe they are perfectly safe to use, but for me they don't hold the charge nearly as long the OEM battery. I shoot large raw and write to two cards. Where I get upwards of 300 shots with the Canon battery, I get about 80 with the Wasabi. I guess maybe it depends on the camera and on what settings you are shooting.
