Lexar was owned by Micron and is no longer in the SD business. Samsung is still a major supplier of memory chips. I'm not sure if Toshiba is still in the business. I've not heard that they have left the business so perhaps they are. I was never aware of SanDisk manufacturing their own chips. If they do, this is news to me.

Are you sure about that, R?

The reason I ask - Sony's new XQD High Speed Cards (400MB/sec) are matched ONLY by Lexar's version - with a 2933x rating ....

If they were going out of business, why would they bother competing with Sony's latest offering?

You don't have to take my word for this. It's something that you can easily research yourself. But here is a link to get you started:

I don't mind being challenged. It's good to be questioned and to question.

Yes, and thanks, R ... I did read the web page at that link you provided, and whilst I understand your "take" on it - it gave me quite a different slant.

They provided two avenues, there. In one, they indicate there is still support for Lexar cards. I did not get the impression, Lexar is kaput!

In the second avenue - they seem to indicate they are looking for a buyer to take over the Lexar division.

If they are serious about this, I am sure there will be quite a few takers. If this be the case, I suspect Lexar will be around for quite some time, to come!

I have no doubt the Lexar name Will survive. What I have doubts about is the quality of the product going forward. I offer the Lenovo computer line as an example. This line of computers was once owned by IBM then sold to a Chinese company. I made the mistake of buying not one but two Lenovo laptops. Never again. In my opinion they are junk. To the best of my knowledge, the Lexar name has been sold to another Chinese company and I fear the worse. I don't remember the name but if it's important to you, I'll try to dig it up. Regards.

Oh, I see, R ... I didn't know it had already been sold ... that DOES make a difference, huh?

Funny you should mention Lenovo. I have heard it was the old IBM home computer branch, before it was sold. But, if you Google it, you will see it was a startup developed in China. There's no mention of any takeover of IBM in that piece. Regardless, all FOUR of the desktops in front of me are Lenovos. If I were to buy yet another, it would, undoubtedly, be - yet, another Lenovo. I have had very good luck with them. Of course, I've never bought a laptop!

That's alright, R ... I'll Google it, myself ... and try to see where Lexar is going next (and how they are likely to expand their operation, & retain quality.)

I'm glad that you're happy with your Lenovo experiences. I assume that you must have all of those desktops in your business environment. I can't imagine the need for four desktops at home. Nevertheless, here is a link stating that Lenovo purchased IBM's computer division a decade ago. Actually, if you look at the date that the article was posted, it's more like 13 years ago. I admit that since I've gotten out of the computer business, I've fallen behind some of the current information but since I still have an interest in it, I do try to read what's happening in the industry.

Well, since my business is run from my home, I guess you could say that. One is a server, one is an on-line only PC (this one) another is an off-line only PC - upon which I write, and upon which I download pics from my cameras, and sort them. The fourth one is set up only to show my photo work.

Three use either 22" or 24" LCDs ... the server I have outputting to a 16" LCD, on top of subwoofers. It's really not as cluttered as it sounds ...

Thanks for the link, R ... I shall follow up ...

Yes, very happy, R ... and when I did have a problem, CS referred me to their N.C. branch - sent them the desktop, and they sent it back a little while later, after having replaced the HD (1 TB) plus - they returned the original to me, in a separate box!!!

When I had a problem with the server, they sent me a whole CD set, with painful step-by-step instructions on how to reinstall the complete system!!!

Couldn't be happier with my Lenovo purchases ... the server is a cigar box!! - sits on a subwoofer! ... This one is a mini, and sits on top of a mid-tower.

These are the two main points on that link:

Lenovo bought IBM's PC division in 2005.

In 2006, Lenovo rolled out its own branded PCs.

R - here's the link for Lenovo at Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenovo

Note: the company began in 1984 - which paralleled IBM's introduction of the home computer ...

Here's the link for Lenovo's history - straight from the horse's mouth - https://successstory.com/companies/lenovo .... and one more >

After my Toshiba laptop stopped working (cup of soup to the keyboard), bought a refurbished Lenovo T410 for travel. Great. Bought 2 refurbished T420's (that I maintain) for friends. Bought a refurbished T430 (for the USB3) for myself for travel. I think they are all fantastic, built like tanks. Simple to upgrade memory, and all except the T410 upgraded to windows 10, no problem. Great used docking stations bought on e-bay. Now I have never tested the keyboard drainholes, but I've seen videos. I build my own home computers, but for travel, the Lenovos can't be beat for my needs (and I love the second bay for an HDD which, along with a USB3 external HDD, saves my photos).

Used to build my own, too, Bravo - I have ten home-brews, but when MS stopped supporting them, I had to go the store-bought route. My first was an HP, but, I had problems with it, right from the start. At the end of a month, I returned it to Wal-Mart, got my money back, and bought a Lenovo at Staples. Since then, I've wound up buying three more desktops - all Lenovo. I'd never dream of buying any other brand, now ....
