It seems that the US has embraced Putin's revival of vile Soviet practices, as he separates children from their parents. Surely our immigrations policies can be more humane! Mr Trump's administration is heartless and cruel, a reflection of Mr Trump himself. See Masha Gessen's column in The New Yorker magazine: https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/taking-children-from-their-parents-is-a-form-of-state-terror Ms Gessen knows of what she writes; she recently emigrated to the U S from Putin's Russia. Mr Trump seems to have removed restraints from ICE in its actions against immigrants before their appeals are adjudicated.

Surely the United States is better than this! Perhaps we should sandblast Emma Lazarus' words from the Statue of Liberty....

The Obama administration tried something similar to deter immigrant families from coming to the U.S. In August 2014 the government began a policy of not issuing bonds to families with the stated aim of forcing them to remain in detention to discourage future immigrant families from coming to the U.S.

In 2015 a federal district court in Washington D.C. ruled the no-bond policy unconstitutional, in part for lacking any evidentiary correlation to preventing new arrivals and because it unjustifiably denied the families their liberty in order to attempt to change the behaviors of other people.

I wonder how any Hogger can possible support this practice. And, BTW, just because President Obama tried this hardly justifies Mr Trump trying it again. And where are the perhaps 1500 children separated from their parents, placed with foster parents thousands of miles away from their detained parents, who seem to have been lost??

The lazarus statement is not law' It's up to congress to pass laws regarding the DACA situation. but congress didnt do their job, because they di not want to give Trump a victory. Don't be ridiculous Frank, you comments are absurd. Why don't you pressure your politicians to work out immigration reform that secures the border and corrects parts of the law that are causing this, the current laws were not written to empty Central America into the US but that is what is going on, we are getting more refugees than we can handle and once released into our country they are not showing up to their asylum hearings... Fix the problem, open borders are not the answer.

There was a time in this country when the nuclear family was respected and even held with esteem.
Even prisoners can get conjugal visits, it’s sad that our current president sees families having so little value to the point of using them against themselves like the communist countries do and even referring to them as animals.
It’s a sad day that Americans are no longer capable of making a decision that is no longer humane.
